How to add, upload, and tag your pictures and photos in FaceBook

If you’re a FaceBook user, you may have seen that some of the photos posted on people’s albums show their name when scrolled over with the mouse. This is called tagging a photo and it’s quite easy to do. In the process, I’ll explain quickly how you can upload photos to your FaceBook account to create albums or to update your profile picture.

To manage your photos or to tags other people’s photos, click on Photos in the left hand menu.

By default, you’ll see a list of recent photo albums and recently tagged photos from your friends. Click on My Photos to at the very top to create a new album.

With FaceBook, every photo that you upload has to be in an album, so click create your first album to get started. You can upload as many photos as you want per album, but it’s usually a good idea to create a new album for a related set of photos, i.e. wedding party, trip to Vegas, cruise ship, etc. Give you album a name, location, and choose who can view it.

You may be asked to install the Java plugin for IE, click Yes to accept. Now you can simply browse your computer hard drive and add the files by checking off the box at the top of each picture or clicking the Select All button. When you move your cursor over a picture, you can also rotate it to the right or left using the circles.

When you are finished, click the Upload button at the top right.  Once uploaded, you’ll be allowed to edit the photos before the album is created. Here you can add a caption, choose the picture for the album cover and delete a photo if you’ve changed your mind.

To tag a person in the photo, just put your mouse pointer on the face of the person and left click. A box appears that lets you choose the person from your list of friends, including yourself.

Once you’re done tagging everyone, you can save the changes and you’ll have the option to share the album with friends and family, even if they are not FaceBook members.

To update your FaceBook profile picture, click on Profile at the very top, and then click on Edit My Profile underneath the location of your profile pic.

Click on Picture and then click the Browse button to upload a new profile picture. The new uploaded picture will become your default profile picture. In order to change your profile picture, you have to upload the photo. FaceBook creates a Profile Picture Album, but for some reason you can’t switch between profile pictures by choosing them from the album, you have to re-upload the picture.

    I am trying to add photos to the view photos of me icon on my profile. I want to put photos of my son in there but when i tag a photo of him from my album I have to tag my name so when someone looks at photo it sais my name too when i am not in the photo??? How can i add photos in here doing it in a simple way?? Its easy to make and alter an album but i want my photos in here…

    please help..

    Hi,
    I have been looking to solve a problem i have with tagging friends in my new album. When I click on ‘Tag’ and then click on their face, a really big box appears. It is far too big for the photo and I can’t reduce it’s size!

    Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hey Mike, if you are having issues tagging photos on Facebook, it could be the browser you are using. Try IE or Firefox, etc and see if it keeps happening to you.

    I’m with Mike – when tagging group photos, it’s pretty much impossible to know to whom the tag refers, because it covers so much space. Is it possible to make the tag boxes smaller? (Akishore – I use Firefox; I think it’s a Facebook thing.)

    Hmmm that is so weird because I have no problems tagging photos. All I do is draw the box around the person and that’s it. Maybe instead of clicking on the picture first and allowing it to put a default sized box on the photo, you should just try to click on one spot and drag the box to the size you want. That’s what I do and it works well. Let me know…

    Hmmm…now I seem to have the opposite problem! The box is too small! It’s one size for all the pictures and I can’t change it…there are millions of people tagging photos everyday on Facebook, so we must be doing something wrong.

    Those of you asking about uploading photos from mobile phone to facebook, if you will Google how to do that, you will find specific instructions. That’s what I did.

    There’s a little thing you do to set up a mobile album that is linked to a special email address. Once it’s set up, you’ll just email the photo from your phone to your facebook mobile pics album. It’s a breeze.

    Just google “how to upload from mobile to facebook” or something like that.

    I have a question too. Recently, I uploaded a profile picture of mine and when FaceBook asked me whether to publish it or not for friends to see..     I have been sucessfully uploading pics into albums on facebook for ages in the same way you show above. Its quick and easy. But they seem to have changed the format and now it will only let me upload ONE pic at a time. Its driving me crazy – how do I get back to the way I was doing it before…or can’t I? Why do people fix it when it ain’t broke?!!
