How to See Fewer AI-Generated Pins on Pinterest (Desktop, Android and iPhone) - How to See Fewer AI-Generated Pins on Pinterest (Desktop, Android and iPhone)

You open Pinterest looking for a cozy living room idea. Instead you get a wall of glossy, too-perfect rooms that don’t exist. The lamps melt into the walls and the bookshelves have no books. If your home feed feels like it’s drowning in AI-generated images (what a lot of users call “AI slop“), you’re not imagining it, and you’re not alone.

The good news is that Pinterest gives you official controls for this. According to Pinterest’s Help Center, the AI content tab under Refine your recommendations lets you switch off AI content for your whole feed or topic by topic. Pinterest’s October 16, 2025 announcement adds a second route: the three-dot menu on an eligible image Pin.

    Table of Contents

Neither method removes AI Pins completely. They reduce how many you see. This guide walks you through both on desktop, Android, and iPhone, and explains what to expect.

Quick Answer: How to See Fewer AI-Generated Pins on Pinterest

You can reduce AI content in two ways:

What You WantWhere to GoWhat It Does
Cut AI content across your feedRefine your recommendations > AI content > turn off Show AI contentTurns off all AI topics at once
Cut AI content in specific topicsRefine your recommendations > AI content > Manage AI content by topicLets you switch off AI content by category, such as home decor or fashion
React to one AI PinEligible image Pin’s three-dot menu (…) > pick the category to see less GenAI content inTunes that category from the Pin itself
Can’t find the settings in the appUpdate the app, or use pinterest.com in a browserMakes sure you have the current menus

On some accounts the tab may still read GenAI interests, the name used at launch.

What Are Pinterest’s AI Pin Controls?

Pinterest’s AI Pin controls are a set of labels and feed settings. You can use them to tell the recommendation system that you’d like less AI-generated or AI-modified imagery. Pinterest announced the upgraded controls on October 16, 2025 (Pinterest’s October 16, 2025 announcement), and added food and drink as a category on December 12, 2025. Coverage of the rollout (Socialday, Zernio) tied it to user complaints about AI content in feeds.

      Here’s what the controls include:

      • AI modified / Gen AI labels: Pinterest says it labels image Pins that its systems detect may have been generated or modified with GenAI. Third-party guides often describe the label near the lower-left of the close-up view, but placement can vary, and not every AI image gets one.
      • Per-Pin control: The three-dot menu on an eligible image Pin lets you choose a category to see less GenAI content in.
      • Topic toggles: Under Manage AI content by topic, you turn AI content on or off per category.
      • Feed-wide toggle: The Help Center describes a Show AI content toggle. Turning it off turns off all AI topics at once.

What Does “AI Modified” Mean on a Pin?

An “AI modified” or “Gen AI” label is Pinterest’s way of flagging an image that its systems think was created or edited with generative AI (AI Marketing Reviews). Think of it like a “contains nuts” sticker on a snack. It’s a heads-up before you engage, not a guarantee about every item on the shelf.

The label only appears on content Pinterest actually detects or tags, as far as available reporting shows. By definition, an AI image that slips past detection wouldn’t carry the label. That distinction matters later on.

These controls are most useful for people who use Pinterest for real-world plans. Say you’re shopping for an actual area rug, a sofa, or a paint color. A fake room that can’t exist doesn’t help you much.

      Before You Begin

      Make sure you have:

      • A Pinterest account you can sign in to
      • A web browser (most major browsers should work, such as Chrome, Edge, Safari, or Firefox) on a laptop, desktop, or Chromebook for the desktop steps
      • The latest Pinterest app from the Google Play Store or Amazon Appstore for Android
      • The latest Pinterest app from the App Store for iPhone
      • About 5 to 10 minutes
      RequirementDetails
DeviceComputer with a web browser, Android phone or tablet, or iPhone
iPhone OS versionThe App Store listing currently lists iOS 16.0 or later
Android OS versionPinterest’s Help Center notes that devices on Android 7.0 or earlier can no longer get app updates and should use a mobile browser instead (Pinterest Help)
CostFree; the controls are part of a standard Pinterest account

You need to be signed in. The settings and feedback options are tied to your account, so they won’t show up if you’re browsing logged out.

      Step-by-Step Guide

The two methods are separate tools, so we’ll take them one at a time. Part 1 is the quick, one-Pin fix. Part 2 is the bigger, category-wide setting.

Part 1: Use the Three-Dot Menu on a Specific AI Pin

Use this when you spot one AI-looking Pin and want to say “no thanks, not more of this” on the spot.

      On Desktop (Web Browser)

Step 1: Open Pinterest and sign in. Go to pinterest.com in your browser and log in. You should land on your home feed.

Step 2: Open the Pin you want to reduce. Click the Pin to open its close-up view. Look for an AI modified or Gen AI label on the image, if one is present.

Step 3: Click the three-dot menu (…). On the close-up view, click the … icon near the top of the Pin. A small menu drops down.

Pin close-up view with the three-dot menu open, showing feedback options such as See fewer or Not interested

Step 4: Choose the reduction option. On an eligible image Pin, Pinterest’s menu lets you pick a category to see less GenAI content in (some guides call this Show fewer AI Pins). If the Pin isn’t eligible, there’s no AI option. A generic choice like See fewer or Not interested is ordinary feedback, not an AI setting.

Expected result: Pinterest confirms your feedback, usually by hiding the Pin or showing a short message. Similar content should show up less over time, not instantly.

      On Android

Step 1: Update the Pinterest app. Open the Google Play Store (or Amazon Appstore), search for Pinterest, and tap Update if you see it. If it says Open, you’re already current.

Step 2: Open a Pin. Launch Pinterest, then tap a Pin in your home feed to open its close-up view. Look for an AI modified label on the image.

Step 3: Tap the three-dot menu (…). Tap the … icon on the Pin’s close-up screen.

Step 4: Tap the reduction option. On an eligible image Pin, choose the category to see less GenAI content in. If no AI option appears, the Pin isn’t eligible.

Expected result: The Pin disappears or Pinterest shows a confirmation. Your feed adjusts gradually.

      On iPhone

Step 1: Update the Pinterest app. Open the App Store, tap your profile picture in the top-right, and scroll to find Pinterest in the update list. Tap Update if it’s there. You can also search for Pinterest and check its page.

Step 2: Open a Pin. Tap any Pin in your feed to open its close-up view and look for the AI label.

Step 3: Tap the three-dot menu (…). Tap the … icon on the Pin.

Step 4: Pick the reduction option. On an eligible image Pin, choose the category to see less GenAI content in.

Expected result: Same as on the other platforms. The Pin is hidden or acknowledged, and Pinterest uses it as a signal.

Tip: If a Pin looks AI-made but has no AI option, use the topic toggles in Part 2 instead. They cover the whole category.

Part 2: Turn Off AI Content by Category (Refine Your Recommendations)

This is the bigger lever. Instead of reacting to Pins one at a time, you tell Pinterest which topics you want less AI content in. The steps below follow Pinterest’s Help Center.

      On Desktop (Web Browser)

Step 1: Open the settings menu. While signed in, click the more options icon at the bottom left of the screen. On some layouts you reach the same menu from your profile icon at the top right, then Settings.

Pinterest desktop account menu with the profile icon and Settings menu item highlighted

Step 2: Find Refine your recommendations. Select Refine your recommendations. In the Settings sidebar it sits alongside items like Privacy and data.

Pinterest settings page showing privacy controls and notification preferences

Step 3: Open the AI content tab. At the top of the Refine your recommendations page, click the AI content tab. Some accounts still show the launch name, GenAI interests.

Refine your recommendations screen with the AI content or GenAI interests tab open, showing a list of topic category toggles such as beauty and home decor

Step 4: Turn off all AI content, or pick topics. To cut AI content everywhere, turn off Show AI content. That turns off all AI topics. To be selective, use Manage AI content by topic and switch off only the categories you want. Pinterest lists architecture, art, beauty, entertainment, men’s, women’s and children’s fashion, health, home decor, sport, and food and drink, and says more are coming.

Expected result: The toggles switch position, and your home feed gradually shows fewer GenAI Pins in those topics.

      On Android

Step 1: Go to your profile. Open the Pinterest app and tap your profile picture, usually in the bottom-right corner.

Step 2: Open the menu. Tap the more options icon at the top right of your profile screen.

Step 3: Tap Refine your recommendations. Tap Refine your recommendations in the list.

Step 4: Open AI content. Tap the AI content tab. Turn off Show AI content, or switch off individual topics under Manage AI content by topic.

Expected result: Toggles change state right away. Your feed shifts over time.

      On iPhone

Step 1: Tap your profile picture. In the Pinterest app, tap your profile picture, usually at the bottom-right.

Step 2: Open the menu. Tap the more options icon at the top right.

Step 3: Tap Refine your recommendations.

Step 4: Turn off AI content. Open the AI content tab. Turn off Show AI content, or switch off individual topics.

Expected result: The toggles update immediately, and the change works on your feed gradually. Pinterest rolled the upgraded controls out to iPhone after desktop and Android, so update the app if you don’t see the tab.

      Configuration: Which Settings Actually Matter

You don’t need to change much. Focus on these:

      • Show AI content: The quickest option. Turn it off to switch off every AI topic at once.
      • Manage AI content by topic: Use this instead if you want, say, less AI in home decor and fashion but still enjoy AI art.
      • Per-Pin control: Handy when an AI Pin appears in a topic you haven’t switched off yet.
      • Activity: The same page’s Activity tab can turn off recommendations based on Pins you’ve engaged with, if past clicks keep pulling similar content back.

      Tips and Troubleshooting

Problem: I still see AI Pins after changing my settings

      • These controls reduce, not eliminate, AI content. Pinterest says they apply to eligible image Pins, so AI video and anything its detection misses can still appear.
      • Pinterest’s Help Center says these recommendation settings don’t affect the ads in your home feed.
      • Use the three-dot menu on AI Pins as they appear.
      • Give it some time. Feeds shift gradually.

Problem: I can’t find “Refine your recommendations” or “AI content”

      • Check both the Settings page and the lower-left more options or profile-icon menu.
      • Look for GenAI interests as well as AI content.
      • Update the app, or try the desktop site at pinterest.com.

Problem: There’s no AI option on a Pin

      • The per-Pin AI control only appears on eligible image Pins.
      • Use the topic toggles in Part 2, or Hide Pin for that one Pin. Hiding is general feedback, not an AI setting.

Problem: The app doesn’t show these settings at all

      • Update Pinterest from the Google Play Store, Amazon Appstore, or App Store.
      • If your phone is too old to update (Android 7.0 or earlier, per Pinterest Help), use Pinterest in your phone’s web browser instead.

      Pro tips:

      • Use Desktop for Settings: Menus are easier to find on a big screen. Save the phone for quick per-Pin feedback.
      • Curate Your Follows: If a creator posts mostly AI images, unfollowing them helps more than any toggle.

      FAQ

Where is the AI content setting on Pinterest? Go to Refine your recommendations > AI content (also seen as GenAI interests).

Can I turn off all AI Pins on Pinterest? You can turn off Show AI content, which switches off all AI topics. That reduces AI Pins a lot, but it won’t catch every AI image, especially ones Pinterest doesn’t detect.

Why do I still see AI Pins? The controls apply to eligible image Pins that Pinterest detects as GenAI. They don’t change the ads in your home feed.

Does this work on iPhone and Android, or just desktop? All three. Pinterest’s Help Center gives steps for the web and the mobile app, and the controls reached iPhone after desktop and Android. Update the app if you don’t see them.

      Wrapping Up

Pinterest’s AI controls take two minutes. Turn off Show AI content or just the topics that bother you, and use the three-dot menu on any AI Pins that slip through. Your feed should start feeling more like real homes, real outfits, and real recipes again.

The limit is detection. The settings only work on Pins Pinterest recognizes as AI, so some will still get through.
