I love how clicking the "End Now" button causes absolutely nothing to happen 9 out of 10 times it's used. Way to go Microsoft: you succeeded in finding another way to drive your customers insane.

Thanks for this introduction. It's a bit old, since Windows Vista and now Windows 7 have been released, but the Task Manager really hasn't changed either! Good info!

Just thought it funny when I was reading this tech tip, I saw how to launch Task Manager with CTRL+SHIFT+ESC so I tried it, when I went back to IE7 it was displaying the line "Have you ever had a program freeze on you and that refuses to close or disappear?" and in the IE top bar was that famous line -NOT RESPONDING-... :O) IE7 crashed and froze while reading about programs that freeze, how ironic!

[...] Most programs that you are familiar with run as stand-alone executables, such .EXEs. However, most services are implemented in the form of DLLs, which cannot run on their own. Hence, svchost loads those DLLs and runs them itself. That’s why when you open the Windows Task Manager, you’ll see a bunch of svchost.exe processes running. If you want more info on the Task Manger, check out my articles on understanding the Task Manager. [...]
