Use Vista Battery Saver to increase the battery life of your Vista laptop

Posted on August 2, 2007 at 1:17 pm

Windows Vista is full of new features that hog up precious battery power far worse than XP ever did and trying to manually disable/enable these features is time-consuming and just plain annoying. Luckily, there is a program that’s just been released that can save up to 70% of your battery’s power by simply disabling a lot of those extra features! This is great for those who would want to write Word document while at a soccer game and don’t need the fancy Aero interface to type!

What Vista Battery Saver basically does is disable the Aero interface and turn off the Vista Sidebar. You can also gain more battery power from your laptop if you disable Bluetooth adapter, turn off the CD/DVD drive, disable the modem, disable the network card, disable the sound card, disable the wireless card, and turn off the smart card reader.  The more things you disable, the longer the battery life! Here’s an article I had written earlier on how to create power profiles in XP to save battery power.

Vista Battery Saver has some preset power plans while on battery or connected to AC, such as Balanced or High Performance. You can also set the Aero interface to disable whenever the computer goes to battery power. According to tests run by the creators, they were able to increase their battery life from about 2 hours to 3 hours! That’s a pretty significant increase in the life of the battery.
