David, I believe the article mentioned that a VHD file coule be useful for backup purposes. You could create a copy of your current OS and then mount that into the same OS later and access files and data. Or load up a different computer altogether. Probably more useful for IT people.

Hello,

I just mounted a virtual hard drive with my new PC running Windows 7 and it worked well. After installing the drive and rebooting, I no longer see my hard drive via explorer. I also can not “re-mount”. The system tells me that the file already exists …

Can anyone help me?

Also irgendwie verstehe ich das nicht. Die Sache mit den VHD´s erstellen usw. ist ja noch ganz einfach, aber in Verbindung mit einem Backup des “NTBackups” von Windows 7 soll man dieses ja einfach als VHD mounten können.

Bei mir wird während, bzw aus der Sciherung aber irgendwie erst gar keine VHD erstellt. Oder es lässt sich zumindest der erstellte Ordner nicht mounten.

So mounting a VHD file in Windows 7 will let you access the files and folders on the virtual machine? You can’t actually make any changes to the OS or anything right? It’s just file access?

Very cool – thanks for the easy step-by-step guide. Do you see any downfalls or issues with application compatibility or maintenance though when using a virtual hard disk?
