Synchronize your Outlook calendar with Google calendar using Calgoo

Want to synchronize your Outlook calendar with Google Calendar? You probably have the same problem I do when it comes to managing tasks in your calendar: you have some appointments that you have stored in Outlook on your local computer and you have some tasks typed into Google Calendar online, maybe because you were at a different computer and couldn’t put it into Outlook.

Either way, having your calendar split between two software programs is annoying and confusing. However, if you stick to just one, you might end up missing an important task because you could not put the event into the most convenient calendar at that moment. And now with most cell phones having Internet connections, you could add appointments to Google Calendar while riding the subway!

That’s why it would be really great if I could add appointments to Outlook while I’m at the office plus add appointments to Google Calendar when I’m not at my desk and they could both synchronize with each other so that both events would show up in both calendars!

calgoo

Calgoo has written a cool piece of software that does just this called Calgoo Connect. Calgoo Connect allows you to enjoy the best of both worlds by synchronizing your online calendars and desktop calendars. Calgoo Connect allows you to continue using Outlook Calendar or Google Calendar, while working synchronously with your colleagues on the other platform.

Calgoo is not free unfortunately, it’s $29 for an entire year, but it’s great for anyone who wants to keep using both calendars. Here’s a couple of things that Calgoo Connect can do for you:

  • Automatically synchronizes your Google calendars with Microsoft Outlook
  • Silently runs in the background without interfering
  • Allows you to continue working as you already do!

It runs on Windows 2000, XP, and Vista and requires Java. You have to be running Outlook 2000 or higher. The cool thing is that Calgoo Connect also supports Google Apps, Google Apps Premier, and Microsoft Exchange Server, so it’s perfect for the corporate environment.

You can also download their calendar software, which has a free version, called Calgoo Calendar. The free version supports up to three calendars, but it supports Google Calendar, Google Apps, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Exchange, any iCal format calendar, and even Facebook! If you want to have more than 3 calendars included, it costs the same as Calgoo Connect.

Note that with Calgoo Calendar, you can view your Google Calendar and Outlook calendar at the same time; Calgoo Connect simply makes sure they are synchronized, so that if you go to one or the other separately, you’ll see events from both.

Overall, it’s a cool program and it’s definitely worth the price for many people who are forced to use Outlook at the office, but prefer to use Google Calendar if they could. Enjoy!

We just launched KiGoo, a free tool that allows Google users to fully manage (create, read, update and delete) their Calendar and Contacts from MS Outlook.

Also KiGoo manage the Free Busy information of your Gmail contacts for appointments if they shared their FB status.

Currently we support Windows XP and office 2007.

You could download it from http://www.getkigoo.com
