Share your desktop remotely for free using Remobo

Can’t get enough of all the free remote desktop sharing applications out there these days? If you want a simple desktop sharing program, you now have several choices, like in my previous post I linked to above.

In addition, I recently wrote about Oneeko, another simple screen sharing application that doesn’t even require anything to be downloaded for the person connecting to your desktop. It allows you to share your desktop using only Flash, which just about every computer in the world has installed.

So what is Remobo and why should we even bother with it? Well because it’s more than just desktop sharing! Here’s the four main features of Remobo that make it one of the better remote PC access and control apps:

  • Remotely control your computer from anywhere
  • Privately share files between computers in your network using BitTorrent
  • Create your own Virtual Private Network (VPN) instantly
  • Run any application between multiple computers

Of course, like other remote control programs, you have to install Remobo on all computers you want to access remotely. However, they are working on a new version where you will be able to access a PC that is not running Remobo, so keep checking out the site for that.

The user interface is simple and looks just like a IM window with user names and computers.

It’s very easy to use also. Just install it, create a Remobo account and then login into the program from all the computers you want to be able to access remotely, i.e. home laptop, home desktop, office laptop, etc. If you have other friends or family who have created accounts in Remobo, you can add them to your buddy list and connect to their computers also and vice versa.

Of course, you can control exactly what files and folders you want to have shared with others, etc, so only the data you want public will be accessible. Also, if you add no one to your list, then only you can access your files. Note you can also share files like in Google Talk and Yahoo Messenger by just sending the files directly to a user rather than creating a Windows shared folder.

Also, Remobo uses direct peer-to-peer connections between computers, so you get the fastest speed possible. Remotely connecting to another computer was fast over my broadband connection.

Also, all data is encrypted as it is transported over the network, so your data is private and no one will be able to access it.

Overall, it’s a good tool for screen sharing, remote control, and VPN, but it’s in beta and has some bugs to be ironed out. Definitely worth checking out though! Enjoy! Source: FreewareGenius
