Search, download and convert Internet videos to your PSP, iPod, cell phone, etc

myMovo is a new web/desktop app that allows you to search, download and convert videos off the Internet into formats that are suitable for your portable media devices, such as a PSP, iPod, Zune, cell phone, or Pocket PC. There are many web sites out there that only allow you to download videos off Internet sites like YouTube or MySpace, but myMovo tries to cover the entire process from searching to downloading to converting and finally to transferring to your device.

myMovo streams video content from a wide array of video sites (ABC, CBS, CNN, Discovery Channel, EOnline, ESPN, MTV, mySpaceTV, Yahoo!, and YouTube) through your computer and onto your media player. The myMovo server constantly searches the top video sites for new videos.

You’ll need to install the software and register for a free account online to get started. Once you’re logged in, you’ll need to setup your myMovo profile and select your media player (Archos, iPod, Nano, PSP, Zen, Zune, iPhone, Blackberry, Nokia, Motorola, and Samsung) and config options, such as how much space myMovo can use on your hard drive for temporary files, etc.

You can also use myMovo to transfer non-copyright DVDs and videos stored on your computer to your media player. myMovo will convert the DVD to PSP, iPod, etc and then transfer the files. Since you’re working with conversions of large videos and DVDs, it can take quite a bit of time for myMovo to convert the files between formats, so you can use the scheduling feature of the software to run conversions at night, etc.

The software works with iTunes, Zune software and Windows Media Player and will launch those programs automatically. In the case of iTunes, myMovo can synchronize the videos to your iPod automatically.

myMovo also has a feature whereby you can subscribe to RSS podcasts and it will automatically convert any new videos to the format required by your player. They also have a default list of podcasts to choose from such as CNN, NBC, MTV, etc.

myMovo works with Windows XP and Windows Vista, but not with Macs at this point. Give it a shot if you want an all purpose media converter for your online and local videos.

This is something which I should try. Previously, I used to struggle with some lame converter to convert avi into MP4, so that I can watch movies on my N95. Sadly it didn’t correctly work on Windows Vista.

    Thanks for the heads up!

I bought a .wma file from Yahoo! Music and want to convert it to .mp3 format so that I can download it to my IPod. iTunes cannot convert it to mp3 b/c it is copy protected.

After googling I found good converter - MelodyCan. It converts different audio & video file formats. Such as wma, wmv, m4v, mov, aac, ra, aa, mp4, snd, aif, m4p, rax, wav, ogg etc. Moreover MelodyCan converts audio books, any format Media Player, any format QuickTime Player, any format Rhapsody or RealPlayer supports.
