Search and find digital pictures quickly and easily using Photology

Overwhelmed by too many digital photos on your computer? Can’t find the time to sit there and tag each photo or separate them into organized folders, etc? If you’re like me, you probably have a billion photos that are just sitting in one giant folder all with names like DSC0100939 with no way to figure out what is what!
That means you probably need some serious help finding them! As of now, all you can do is bring them all up in a photo gallery program and browse until you find the picture you want. Or you can browse by date and try to remember when you took the picture. But what do you do if you can’t remember when you took the picture!?
Photology comes to the rescue! Photology helps you navigate your billizillion digital photos by finding photos using simple and intuitive filters like faces, sky, color, location, and time of day.
So you’re looking for a picture of your brother in a bright orange polka dot tuxedo taken a couple of years back during high school graduation? If your photos are not tagged or organized into folders, then Photology can help. Use their color filter to narrow down the photos from 10,000 to just a couple! Photology aims to make sure that you can find a photo in less than thirty seconds using their advanced search filtering.
Photology is very simple to use and you can try out a demo by going to the homepage and clicking Try Now at the top right. They have a collection of about 9,000 photos that you can then start searching through using the filter buttons on the left hand side:
Here’s the full list of available search filters you can apply to your photos. Remember you can keep choosing more filters to keep narrowing down the photos. So if you remember that the picture was taken at night, in 2006, and has a face, then you would go to Time of Day, Date, and Content.
- Time of day and Date (month, year)
- Orientation
- Over/under exposed
- Inside or outside
- Text search of captions, file names, folders
- Coarse or fine color search
- Photo content: Plants, Sky, Faces, Beach, Flowers, Snow, Sunset, Water
Photology not only helps you search your photos, but you can also adjust them with a few useful tools:
- Auto-color
- White point
- Brightness & Contrast
- Red-eye
- Crop
- Rotate
You can also share your photos online and upload them to Flickr. You can print them from Photology in standard sizes.
Playing around with Photology online makes me believe that searching for photos is definitely going to change soon! It’s not incredibly accurate yet, but the online demo is pretty darn cool! It is very intuitive and much more fun to search using these kinds of filters rather than just plain text. Picasa has a feature to search by color, but this trumps that by far!
Definitely very cool software and well worth the $39 if you have a crap load of pictures! I wish it were free and maybe it will be once Google buys it out! Enjoy!
