Save your Yahoo, Skype, or MSN IM chat history online for free

IM-History is a cool little application that lets your save your IM chat history for multiple instant messengers in one secure place automatically. The nice thing about it is that it’s free, easy to install, very useful and has a lot of good features. It’s actually the first of it’s kind when it comes to saving chat history online.
The chat history is stored on IM-History’s servers and can be accessed at any time from any computer. They currently support Skype, Yahoo Messenger, ICQ, MSN, Miranda IM, QIP, and Trillian. Within a few months they will be adding support for AIM, Google Talk, Pidgin, Kopete and IChat. Once installed, the program automatically detects the IM program and can even upload existing saved chat history.
To get started, first click Sign Up to create an account.
Next, download the software and being the installation. After you accept the license agreement, you’ll get to the Components page dialog, where IM-History auto-detects your messengers and user names for each one. Go ahead and choose which programs and accounts you want to record.
You can then choose to upload all of your history if you like. Next fill in your user name (username is the email address) and password for the IM-History account you just created.
Once installed, you’ll see a little icon in your taskbar with either a green check, red X or an exclamation point. FYI, I installed it and started up Yahoo Messenger and kept getting a red X with a “Yahoo History not found” error. I left Yahoo on and exited IM-History and started it again and then it worked fine.
Now if you right-click on the icon and choose IM-History, you’ll be brought to a secure web page where you can view all messages for each contact and filter by date also.
Of course, messages will be recorded only on the computer that the program is installed on, but you can still go to the IM-History web site and access any past IM sessions at any time.
Some other nice features include the ability to star messages for easier search, the ability to choose contacts for which you DO NOT want to record history, and the ability to simply double-click on the icon in your taskbar to bring up your history. In the future they are planning on supporting mobile platforms, so if you like to chat from your iPhone, etc, that could be recorded also.
Overall, a pretty cool app that is unobtrusive and works really well! Definitely check it out.
