Juice - Free podcasting software

Posted on July 3, 2008 at 5:19 am

So you have finally caught the podcasting bug; you can’t wait to start downloading and listening to all of your favorite online feeds, but first things first: What is the best podcasting software available? Long gone are the days of Ipods and ITunes strangle hold over your favorite downloadable content; even non-Apple users now have several options for enjoying the benefits of podcasting.

Well folks, once again the choices are vast when picking an appropriate podcast software program to help manage your pocasting needs.

So what’s the best choice? Fortunately, a relatively familiar name to the podcasting software universe called Juice, (formerly called Ipodder) an open source freeware software program, is making headway in the competitive internet podcasting market with a stable, cross-platform multimedia user friendly program.

Juice stands out from the crowd thanks in part to its use of “podcatching” capabilities, which basically allows the user to not only download their favorite pod casts online, but also to download each one automatically and play feeds whenever you want.

This conveniently allows less time with manual downloading for individual related pod cast episodes or feeds.

Juice also offers several great quirky and innovative features like allowing automatically downloading feeds to be synced to your MP3 player, having a a podcasting directory with thousands of various feeds, and the ability to select and to download your favorite pod casts at certain scheduled times automatically.

Being that Juice is a cross platform program is exciting news, as it is user friendly for MAC, PC and (hopefully in the near future) LINUX users. Juice features a pretty decent user interface as well; its no arduous task when it comes to finding and selecting your favorite feeds, and the options available can make organization and management a snap.

It’s also nice to know that Juice allows users the option to use multiple media players, like Win Amp, Windows Media player, and many others as a default for listening to online content.

Since Juice is run on Python programming, its coding makes it easy to support most RSS protocols and XML services; making it an excellent choice in terms of versatility with podcasting exchanges and receiving online content.

Not to be overlooked, is the newest version, Juice 2.1- now available for download. The most significant improvements available for pod cast enthusiasts include one click subscription support, more added languages and translations (on top of the numerous languages already installed and supported!), automatic cleanup of older pod casts, and more accessibility options.

All in all, Juice provides a solid, unique, efficient and let’s not forget FREE podcasting software program- ever since its inception, it’s been a constant contender; and to date still maintains an enviable status in the podcasting market. It’s tough to critique, even with its minor set backs(users cannot create their own podcasting), yet it remains a universally sound choice.
