Oneeko – Super simple screen sharing and video conferencing
Posted on October 14, 2008 at 5:28 am
I’ve written about many screen sharing programs before and also a few video conferencing apps too, but I recently came across one program that allows me to share my desktop with anyone in the world in under 3 minutes! Also, it doesn’t require the person I am trying to share my desktop with to download any software!
Oneeko is a nifty little program that lets you share your desktop super fast and super easily. Just download the software, create an account, and invite someone to view your desktop! Bam, that is it, literally. I just tried it at home and got it to work in a few minutes.
Before I’ve used CrossLoop, LogMeIn, and many other remote control and screen sharing programs, but they all require both parties to download and install software in order to work.
The other nice thing about the program, other than the guest not having to install anything, is that you can control exactly what you want to share on your desktop. It’s basically a “See What You See” type of functionality. When you share your desktop, a box will appear and whatever is inside that box is what will show up in the window of the viewer.
The other great thing is that the program integrates with Skype and allows you to share your desktop with other Skype users directly. There is a free and a pro version of the product, the pro version allows you to use your webcams for video conferencing, give control of your desktop to guest, share with more than one person, transfer files to the guest, and customize the logo (if you have your own company).
So download the program, install it, and then click the Create Account button from the program and then log in.
Now on the main screen, you can invite someone to watch your screen in three ways: via Skype, via email, or via the Oneeko website.
I went ahead and simple went to the Oneeko website on my other computer and at the top right entered in my user name for the account I had just created.
A pop up window appears with the Oneeko user interface and now all you have to do is wait for the host to share their desktop screen! Since the programs works using Flash only, you can view someone else’s screen from a Linux, Mac, or Windows computer. Currently you can only share the desktop of a Windows computer, but a Mac version of the product is coming out soon.
As the host, just click on the green Show button next to your name when you get the request to share your screen. At the top right, you’ll be able to see exactly what the other person is seeing.
Eventually, the Pro version will also have a feature so that you can remotely access your PC from any other computer with an Internet connection. They currently don’t have any pricing for the pro version, but if it’s not ridiculous, I would probably buy this for myself! Enjoy!

Thanks for the great review Aseem!
Just a note that we will be posting version 1.1 in the next day or so. This version will add annotation capabilities and a smaller sharing area for those who are running Oneeko on a small laptop or netbook. Many new exciting features will be announced within the next month. We will keep you posted!
