Miro – The free video player that turns your computer into a TV
Posted on July 20, 2007 at 3:17 pm
Miro is the best video player I have ever seen to date: it plays all video files, it has over 1500 “channels” to download videos from, it has the largest collection of HD content, it allows you to download YouTube videos directly, and it can be used as a BitTorrent client! That’s pretty impressive for a video player! I don’t think Windows Media player comes anywhere close to that!

Once installed, you get a default set of channels in New & Tech, Entertainment, and High-Def that you can start downloading from. At the bottom left, you can also search for videos at YouTube and a host of other video-sharing web sites.

Click on the Miro Guide to start searching for a channel that interests you. Once you find one, click the green Add Channel button. Miro will add the channel and automatically start downloading the latest video from that channel. If there are new videos on the channel that you have not seen yet, there will be a big blue circle to the right of the channel with a number that shows how many new videos are listed.
Simply click on a video to start downloading it. Once a video is finished downloading, there will be a big green circle next to the channel showing the number of downloads that have been completed.

The cool thing about Miro is that your videos expire after a certain number of days, 5 days by default. This means that they are deleted from your hard drive to make room for other videos. If you want to keep a particular video permanently, just click the Keep button.
And like I mentioned above, you can search for videos on YouTube and other video sharing sites directly from Miro. But the cool thing is that you can download the videos to your computer also, which you can’t do from the YouTube web site.
Overall, this is a very useful program to have! Great for bloggers to find new fresh content or for anyone to find content on thousands of topics! And it’s all free! Check it out!

It would have loved it, if it had the capability of playing media on go.. rather than downloading it first.
Benedict, yes it would have been nice! I thought the same thing because the videos are great, you just have to wait to download them and have a lot of hard drive space! Maybe in the future, who knows!
