Fire Uploader – FireFox extension to upload/download files or photos to Box.Net, Flickr, Picasa, or YouTube

I just read about a very cool FireFox extension off of Digital Inspiration called Fire Uploader that lets you upload or download files from some very popular sites such as Flickr, Picasa, Box.net, FaceBook and YouTube. The extension works just like an FTP program where you can see the local and remote folders, upload as many files as you want without restrictions, and best of all you can upload to many different sites all in one interface.

Once the extension is installed, you can click on Manage Accounts in order to either create new accounts at these sites or put in your current logins and passwords for each site.

The extension also has site specific features as you can see from the above picture of my Picasa Web Albums account. It tells me how much space is available and the max number of photos per album. The developers are adding a lot more features and improving the speed and reliability of the extension, but so far with my testing it was has worked fine with Picasa. One nice aspect of the extension is the fact that you can see thumbnail views of your pictures in the local folder view:

Overall a very nice extension and one that will definitely prove to be very useful as we create more and more accounts at various file sharing sites on the Internet.
