Nero is one of the best when it comes to CD/DVD burning software. The latest version, Nero 9, has just arrived and we will review some of it’s new features of it’s main menu, the StartSmart, on this post.
Note: You can get the trial version of it from http://www.nero.com. You will need to enter a valid email address on the download page since the required trial key is sent via email.
Nero 9, like the previous versions, took up to more than 30 minutes to install on my Dell M20 Precision:
On older systems, you might need to wait a little longer. The first time I tried Nero’s installer I thought my PC hanged since the progress of the installation is really slow. I hope Nero fixes this issue on the next version’s installer.
The first thing a user will notice is the familiar but redesigned StartSmart window:
The top menu contains a more generic level of choices. This could be easier to pick-up for new users not yet familiar with Nero. If you choose “Rip and Burn” for example, it will show choices like “rip audio cd” and “burn audio cd”.
The left side menu items are are more specific since it takes the users directly to the “burning” screen wherein you can start to add files to the disc image if you choose data burning.
The Add/Remove button which is not easily noticeable at first sight at the lower right corner lets you add link to more Nero applications. This lets you add a link to other apps like Nero Recode or Nero Vision:
The list of available applications are listed. All chosen applications will have a shortcut on the main screen:
If you are currently using Nero 8, the new features might not be enough for you to upgrade. If you have an older version, like 7 or earlier versions, this might be a good time to get the Nero 9.
