Convert AVI, MPEG, WMV video to Flash (FLV, SWF)

When it comes to converting between formats, there are literally dozens of posts I’ve already written including convert a PDF to Word or JPG, converting a DVD to iPod or MP4, converting WMA to MP3, converting Powerpoint to DVD or Flash, and converting a video into PSP format.
Whew! Today I’m going to write a quick post on how you can convert any video file including AVI, MP4 3GP, MOV, WMA, etc to Flash video format, either SWF or FLV. This is pretty handy when you need to convert a large video file into a much smaller Flash video so that you can post it on a web site or onto a online video sharing site like YouTube.
Even though you can upload a 1GB file to YouTube, it’ll take forever over a DSL connection and it’s pretty slow over Cable too! That’s why I always convert my videos to Flash first, then upload. Of course, if you have a website, it’s always better to use Flash format if you can.
Pazera Free Video to Flash Converter is a standalone program, meaning there is no need to install anything on your computer, you simply run the EXE file.
Here are some of the major features of Pazera that I really like:
- Completely portable…uses no registry keys or system files, which means you can throw it on a USB drive and run the program on any computer
- Has a set of predefined profiles for converting videos to Flash. What’s great about this is that it has several profiles for converting videos into an acceptable YouTube format. It also has profiles for converting to FLV without audio or into small or large size. To get to the profiles, just click on Encoder and click on Load Encoder Settings.
- You can also convert audio into FLV or SWF format by using an image or text as a background to the video
- 2-pass encoding which will improve the quality of video, especially for grainy or dark videos
- Supports a bunch of video formats including AVI, DivX, XviD, MPEG, MPG, WMV, MOV, QT, FLV, SWF, MP4, 3GP, VOB, VCD DAT, and OGM.
- Supports the latest version of the LAME encoder and FFmpeg encoder.
The program is super simple to use, which is great for me! Just click Add files, select all your videos and pick which format you want to convert the video to: FLV or SWF. If you want to change the audio settings, video resolution, or crop the video, you can do that also at the bottom.
Once you’ve added your videos, just click the Convert button at the top and all the videos will be converted to Flash. That’s it! Can’t get any simpler than that. You can also just drag and drop videos onto the GUI interface.
So definitely check out Pazera Video to Flash Converter for all of your video to flash converting needs! Enjoy!

To convert video files to FLV format you will need a conversion application, usually referred to as a converter or encoder. Converters are fairly straightforward to use — you simply import a file, choose a preset (and customize the settings if required), then export as FLV. Good converters have additional features such as batch processing options.
There are many converter/encoders available — some free, some cheap, some expensive. If you do a search for “FLV converter” or “FLV encoder” you’ll find plenty of options. Three of the most commonly-used converters are listed below.

I download this software’s demo, but I can’t install it because I don’t have registered and pay for it.
Notes:
If possible, use a converter with 2-pass encoding. This creates better quality video.
I use Moyea Video4Web Converter

Is Flash the de-facto format for presenting video on the Internet? Sometimes the program crashes when converting videos to Flash, any help?
I often use a total video converter, it can convert almost any video format with excellent conversion speed and quality, such as converting WMV to MP4, WMV to MPEG, MKV to AVI, WMV to AVI, AVI to MPEG, etc.. Furthermore, it can easily convert video files to popular audio files like converting WMV to MP3, AVI to WMA, MKV to AAC, MP4 to MP3, etc. It’s not free, however.

What is the best way to embed an AVI file on a website? I heard it was easiest to convert to flash and then embed, but is there a better way nowadays? Thanks!
Thanks, I will try converting my home video, which is in AVI format to flash and uploading it to my website.
