Run Android Apps on PC the Easy Way

Posted on December 26, 2011 at 5:55 am

A few months ago, we posted a tutorial titled Install Android Mobile OS on PC. With that tutorial, you can run Android on your computer via the Android SDK (software development kit). However, SDK installs are more targeted for developers, or people that are developing and creating their own Android applications.

In today’s post, we will review a slicker way to run Android, that is more effective for people who are not necessary “developers,” but rather casual Android fans who would like to be able to use Android apps on their PC.

Android on PC

Dubbed as an “app player for PC,” an application named BlueStacks is what makes all of this possible. Rather than having a confusing SDK install to run Android Apps, here’s how BlueStacks operates:

BlueStacks

To get started, jump to the BlueStacks official website and click the Download Now button.

Save the installer file to your computer by clicking the Save File button. The installer is a 117MB file, so it should only take a few minutes to download.

Upon successful download of the software, proceed on to installation by double clicking the installer file. You will also need to agree to the terms (Fun Lawyer Stuff!) and click the Install button to begin the installation.

The BlueStacks application will take a few minutes to install. Once it has finished, click the Finish button to close the installer. Alternatively, you can choose to watch the introductory video if you’d like.

Now that the program is installed, you can launch it using the path Start > All Programs > BlueStacks > Launch BlueStacks.

Upon doing so, BlueStacks will startup and enter full screen mode. Click the Apps button to view the available apps that come with BlueStacks.

Here is an example of the Drag Racing app in BlueStacks full screen:

Alternatively, if you’d like to search for more apps than what is offered by default with BlueStacks, you can jump to this page, create a BlueStacks account, and get access to the full BlueStacks apps library. There is an in-app link to the BlueStacks channel page, accessible by clicking the Get More Apps button.

That’s pretty much all there is to it with BlueStacks. Overall, this was a very enjoyable tutorial to write, and I was very impressed with the BlueStacks program. BlueStacks describes it the best with their tagline “app player for PC.” If you want to run Android apps on your PC for enjoyment, rather than app development, BlueStacks is definitely the way to go. If something like BlueStacks comes out for iOS, that would be awesome too. Now, how would these apps perform on a touchscreen laptop PC?

Thank you for stopping by the site for today’s post. If anyone has any questions about this app, leave a comment and I will try to help.
