Encrypt Gmail, Facebook and other Text-Based Messages
Posted on September 1, 2011 at 6:54 am
Email, by nature, is not completely private. Servers store email indefinitely, and these accounts are some of the easiest to hack. Messages sent through Facebook seem even more vulnerable than email.
Encrypting a message adds an extra layer of protection. Encipher.it can encrypt any text-based message, so long as the recipient has the password needed to decrypt it.
Encipher.it is designed to work from a bookmark. If you use Firefox or Chrome, drag the blue Encipher it link to your bookmarks bar. If you use Internet Explorer, right-click the link and add it to your favorites.

Hide Your Recent Activity from Friends on Facebook
Posted on September 1, 2011 at 5:53 am
Facebook has about a million privacy settings and how it all works changes about every 6 months. If you have been on Facebook recently, you have probably noticed the new “easier” privacy settings and the new buttons you can use for tagging friends and locations when writing a status update. It’s all nice and fun, but there are still some settings that are accessed in obscure ways which I didn’t even know till recently.

Activate GPS on Android
Posted on August 31, 2011 at 6:11 am
Location based services can become a large battery drain when left running in the background. That’s why Android offers specific controls for the GPS chip in every device. There are even custom widgets that allow you to turn on or off the GPS satellite location right from the home screen. In daily use, it’s good battery practice to leave GPS satellite location off until needed for Google Maps or navigation apps.
To adjust the GPS settings, start by pressing the Home button to return to the main home screen.

With the media’s glaring attention on cyber-bullies, parents are becoming increasingly concerned about their children’s Facebook activities. Parenting magazines and websites recommend friending your child, but this alone does not provide a clear picture of what is really happening on your child’s Facebook account.

Download Files from a URL to Your Dropbox
Posted on August 30, 2011 at 5:45 am
If you use multiple devices to surf the Web, chances are some of your devices are faster than others. For example, downloading files from the Web to a cell phone can take a significant amount of time for those of us not blessed with 4G. Plus, with the elimination of unlimited data on most cellular plans, almost everyone is watching what they download.
If you are downloading files from your phone to open on your computer later, a better option than wasting data and waiting on the download is simply to download the file straight to your Dropbox account. URL Droplet does just that.
