Fix Microsoft Security Essentials Install Error Code 0×80070645

Posted on November 8, 2011 at 5:42 am

Ever since Microsoft has released their Microsoft Security Essentials anti-virus and anti-spyware program, I’ve used it exclusively on all my Windows machines. It does a great job and has a fairly high detection rate as compared to other free anti-virus programs.

However, I recently ran into a strange issue that caused me some grief. Everything was running fine until one day Security Essentials said it was out of date and that I had to upgrade to a newer version. Ok, no problem. After a little while, I got the following error message:

How to Block a Number on the iPhone

Posted on November 7, 2011 at 6:35 am

So I have a problem where there is this freaky person who has somehow gotten my phone number and keeps calling me on my iPhone all the time! The first thing I wanted to do was block the number from calling my phone. That’s when I ran into my first problem!

So there is no simple way to block a number on your iPhone. It’d be cool if you could just select the number, press the little blue arrow next to it and choose BLOCK! But alas, life is never simple and nor is blocking a number. So what are your options?

PartedMagic – Free Partition Manager Software

Posted on November 7, 2011 at 6:31 am

If you’re one of those people who likes to mess around with their computer a lot, then you have probably partitioned your hard drive many times over. If you have never partitioned a hard drive, you can do it very easily with a free tool called PartedMagic.

The program is actually a combination of two partitioning tools, taking the best of both programs and combining them into one. You can really do all kinds of stuff with this program from very advanced to very simple. Here are some of the core features:

See All Startup Programs with WhatInStartup

NirSoft is always coming out with great utilities and one of my favorites is WhatInStartup. You can download the program from here:

http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/what_run_in_startup.html

It’s very simple to use and it has some nice features that you won’t get from MSConfig. Firstly, you don’t have to install it, it is just an executable file that runs on it’s own, which is nice because you can run it from a USB stick or any type of external media.

Record and Replay Macros in Firefox

Posted on November 5, 2011 at 5:39 am

Firefox is a wildly popular browser with a huge collection of add-ons for virtually any purpose. Some of its best add-ons are those that save us time and frustration, like Lazarus for form data recovery and the many macro programs that automate repetitive tasks.

While there are several macro add-ons available for Firefox, one of the best is iMacros.

From iMacro’s page in the Firefox Add-ons, click Add to Firefox.

Firefox will remind you to only install add-ons from authors you trust. Click Install Now. Once installed, you must restart Firefox.

No Wireless Networks Available in Windows 7?

Posted on November 4, 2011 at 6:16 am

One problem I have run into on several Windows 7 machines is not getting any wireless networks when I go to the wireless network manager! Usually, when you click on Network icon in the task bar, you get a list of wireless networks and then just connect.

However, there are times when you will see the message “No wireless networks available”, which makes no sense because the day before you may have seen 15 wireless networks while in your apartment or wherever. There are also some instances where a few wireless networks show up, but not all networks that you know exist. That’s a slightly different problem, but one that I’ll address too.
