I have Outlook 2007 and error message “Business Contact Manager has encountered a problem and needs to close”. I open Outlook and this message appears then Outlook closes, this happens over and over. Please help!!

I have Outlook 2007. I started receiving this message after an unexpected power cut. Tried all steps but the one that worked for me was provided by Chris G in the comments. Delete all files in the C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook folder. (Make a copy first so you can restore if needed). Thanks to all for the help, was dreading a format/reinstall!

I have Outlook 2003 and it was giving me the error message “….encountered a problem…..” every time I tried to delete an email or move one to a different folder. And each time it closed it would check the app for a problem, which would take about 4 minutes. Your Method 2 worked like a charm. After deleting and recreating the email account the problem went away. Thanks so much for the tip.

finally fix the outlook “error” “circle”

i deleted all the files in the following directory
C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

and it worked start away

Finally I managed to solve the problem I had with my previous anti-virus add-on that insisted on appearing in Outlook.

This will fix the issue:

Open Outlook – go to Tools -> Account Settings -. highlight aan email account -> Click “data files” and then delete any data files that you do not require. You will see Outlook.pst and archive.pst…. If you see anything else, then this is file is likely causing the issue. A typical file that you may see here is a Winfax file if you have installed Winfax. Hope this helps.

I have the same problem of “outlook encountered a problem and need to be closed” in my Outlook 2007 while i start a new mail or when i click on the reply button. It occures only in normal mode. In safe mode it is working fine… can you help me?

you can easily repair your pst file by using scanpst.exe which you can find in your ms office directory. it is important unmap the pst-file before you start, to ensure that it is not used by outlook.

I can’t even get outlook /safe to work. I get the same error “Microsoft has encountered a problem….”. It is in a loop; I tried creating a new data file, same issue. It might be a bad email but how do I find it?
Is there a way to repair the pst file?
