Comments on: Bulk convert Word Excel 2003 documents to Office 2007

Looks like this conversion program worked nicely on my Win7-Office2010 computer. However, I have a client computer with Win7–>Office2010 where the default program association is not working correctly on the several hundreds of Word2003 file moved over from their 8 year old Dell computer. I hope this bulk conversion program will work so I don’t have to completely uninstall Office2010 and reinstall (including the Outlook with 5 Email accounts!) all over again. In any case, this looks like a neat little program. Thanks for posting the good instructions and the insightfuly user comments.

I am interested in doing a bulk convert to Office 2007. I have thousands of Word files and I am curious if the “bulk convert” will place the converted files into their existing folders? Or, do I have to manually move them after the conversion? (I hope not). Also, what happens to old .doc files?

If someone could e-mail me with an answer it would be greatly appreciated!

It works but is there a way to have it remove the original file? Duplicating thousands of files is no better than having to convert them one by one. At least when I convert them individually the original file is removed.

The idea of doing a bulk conversion is to reduce disk usage with files you most likely will not need to open again. Doesn’t do much good if it increases disk usage by 30%.

Any sugestions?

I am using 2007 but have Excel/Word files from 1997-2003 to convert. I tried but NOTHING changed

I made one change to the ini file: C:\Users|Ann|Documents
(see below)

Now what?

[FoldersToConvert]
; The Converter will attempt to convert all supported files in the specified folders

Works beautifully on word or excel (when making correction listed in post 3), but not for powerpoint. Any solutions/suggestions? Thanks.

Sounds great! I like Adobe software very much. But there’s a problem. Because of my job, I often need to convert PDF to Excel, and I have used some freeware, but it hardly meet my needs.

I could not get the program to work until I read through the messages and got to #3, about changing the *.ini file. The webpage still has the old instructions on it.

Also, my computer had an older revision of the compatibility pack on it. I had to delete the old pack before installing the new pack (12.0.6500.500). The conversion will not happen with the old pack.

Hi, just found this solution, haven’t used it yet.
xlsx files are smaller than xls files, typically one of my xlsx files is 71% of the xls, has anyone observed whether this conversion process reduces the file size as it converts?

When I run it, it does not convert any of the files in the folder and there are about 30 .doc files. The director is correct.Help
