Yoga exercise tips for IT guys!

Thought you would never hear that one eh!?! Well, my wife and her mother are from India and thankfully for me they both were taught Yoga by a 100 year old guru (means teacher) who has been doing Yoga for 80 YEARS!!! And the man can still bend and move like he’s in his thirties!! Ridiculous! Anyway, I’ll probably be dead by 60, but I’ll try and pass one some of my knowledge to other who might actually follow the advice!

Since we stare at computer screens all day, you need to take care of your eyes else you’ll find yourself getting blinder or blinking away like a crazy freak! First thing you can do is to make sure after ever hour or two, you stop and slow blink your eyes about 5 times. Just blink hard and keep them closed for about 3 seconds and open them and do it again. That’ll help reduce stress on the eyes.

Second thing you can do is to look straight up into the air and then bring your chin as close to your collar bone as possible. Doing this a few times will help loosen up your neck muscles. You can also rotate your neck too.

There are some other things that you can do in the morning before coming to the office or even during lunch, but which take more time. Rinsing your eyes with water every morning will keep them clean and fresh (not just taking a shower, but actually putting the water into your eyes). Another technique, which is apparently good, but I never do it because I’m lazy is to look towards the sun but to keep your eyes closed. The energy from the sun is apparently supposed to help your eyes.

My favorite exercise that I do at night is the finger in front of the eyes and to focus on the finger close to your eye and then to focus on the distant object behind your finger, like the wall or ceiling. If you do this long enough, your eyes will actually start to hurt and that means you are really exercising them. If you keep doing this one exercise every day, you can actually improve your vision slowly.

Give it a shot! I’ll post more Yoga tips later!
