No more Visual Foxpro after 9!

I had to report on this because I’ve been using Foxpro for the last 3 years and find it to be a great product for a small IT shop. I love the fact that you can develop an application quickly, connect to the database with ease, deploy the application within a few minutes, and have many users connect at the same time without any issues. The learning curve was very small and the program had become very robust with transaction handling, custom report generation, and a host of other features.

It will be missed! According to Microsoft, they will continue to support the product until 2015 with their normal support cycle. They are going to be moving the rest of the Foxpro team to other divisions related such as Visual Studio and SQL Server.

However, there is one hope of a product close to Foxpro and that is Sedna. It’s apparently going to take the Foxpro enhancements to the next level and integrate better with Visual Studio, Windows Vista and Windows Longhorn.
