If you’re a big time user and lover of Remember the Milk, my favorite online task management software, you’re going to love their new Firefox add-on that integrates Remember the Milk directly into Gmail! You can now manage your tasks right alongside managing your email! It lets you do all kinds of fun stuff with your tasks and it even interacts with your mail, contacts, and calendar also.
Once you have the nitfy little add-on installed, you’ll see a new pane over to the right called the Tasks pane, which you can customize to show only certain tasks, how to sort the tasks, and how to groups the tasks.
You can add tasks to Remember the Milk super fast by typing anything into the box and pressing Enter. Of course, you want to mention times and dates, etc. Just hover over a task to Complete it, Postpone it, or edit the task details.
Now that’s the simple stuff and I would be pretty happy with just that, but these guys went wild and made some really cool integration features. For example, let’s say you have an email that you need to follow-up on, well, you might end up labeling it or starring it so you can remember. Remember the Milk can automatically create a task when you star a message or label it with a specific label! Neat!
You can configure these settings by going to Settings from the top and then click on Tasks. You’ll see an option for Starring and Labeling. You can also create a task from an email by clicking on Create Task from the More Actions menu.
Finally, when you need to reply to that person, simply hover over the task and you’ll see an icon linking to the original email. Once the email has been sent, the task will automatically be completed.
Also, Remember the Milk can communicate directly with Google Calendar, so you can add reminders, tasks, and events to Google Calendar directly from Remember the Milk interface. When you add a task, make sure it’s something like this:
Organize flowers 2 days before Mother’s Day
Call Jimmy on Thanksgiving
Write up minutes after team meeting
Send thank you notes 1 month after my wedding
Remember the Milk will detect this and add it to your calendar! Nice! You can also link up your contacts with Remember the Milk. So if you add tasks like “Email George about party” or “Follow up with John in one week”, you’ll see your contact is linked with the task. Hover your mouse over the task and you’ll be able to email them, chat with them, etc.
You can also quickly look up all tasks associated with a contact by going to the Contacts section in Gmail and clicking on a name. All of the tasks will appear in the task pane on the right! Sweet! Enjoy! Source Remember the Milk Blog
