Google SearchMash - New way to search
Posted on March 16, 2007 at 11:26 am
Google’s toying around with what might be there future version of the search engine. Right now you do a Google search and you get a textual listing of results as default. If you want to perform a image search on the same terms, you have to do a separate search using the Google Image search. And same thing with Froogle…so on and so forth.
Well, now Google is testing a new type of search called Search Mash, which conjures up all the excitement of Web 2.0 mash ups! It seems to me to be a natural step in the evolution of search. Why shouldn’t you be able to search for a Dell laptop and not only get a list of web sites with information on the product, but also see images of the item, find out the latest prices of the item, watch some amateur or commercial videos, if any, of the item, read other’s opinions or reviews about the item, and get the latest news!! Now that is a search!
Another interesting feature is the “More web results” link at the bottom of the list of results. Click on that and another 10 results appear on the same page! It looks as if they got rid of the entire paging feature altogether that most people are accustomed to. You just keep clicking and it’ll keep giving you more results.
The technology is still far from perfect and it’s not currently linked up with Froogle, but it’s definitely very interesting and would be a lot more useful than just getting a list of web sites! Here’s a preview of what it looks like:
