Google releases the Official Google Photos Blog

Google has officially released a new blog for all things photo-related called the Official Google Photos Blog! According to it’s tag line, it’s going to contain news, tips, and tricks from the Picasa team at Google! That sounds exciting to me!
I’m an avid user of Google’s Picasa Photos application and I really enjoy using Picasa Web Albums since the two products are so well integrated. I had thought about using Flickr at one point, but I didn’t like the face that there was no easy way to upload pictures from my computer and that I couldn’t browse the photos quickly and easily while offline.
Here’s the introduction from their first post:
"A picture is worth a thousand words, but sometimes there’s still more to say. That’s why I’m happy to introduce our new Google Photos Blog. We’ll be using this space to post feature updates, photography tips, and (of course) some of our favorite photo albums, all of which will keep you current with the latest developments from the Picasa team."
Personally, I think this is great because even though Picasa is a great desktop photo application, the Web Albums app has been quite neglected. The interface definitely needs to be updated with some cool AJAX features and there needs to be a way to create nested albums! I currently have well over 300 albums and it takes an entire minute to load the My Photos page because ALL 300 albums are shown at once! That just seems silly to me.
It would also be cool if the community and sharing features of the web albums were updated. I guess we’ll have to wait and see if something new starts to happen with this great product that has so much potential!

“no easy way to upload pictures from my computer”
It is very easy to upload photos from your computer to Flickr. You can either use their official uploading tool - http://flickr.com/tools/ - or you can use their newly-redesigned web interface - http://flickr.com/photos/upload/
It can’t get any easier!

I guess I really like the desktop application and having the ability to view the photos on my computer easily when offline. Also in Picasa, you can easily see which pictures have been uploaded already, whereas with Flickr, once you upload a folder of pictures and add more pictures to that folder later, you’ll have to go to the web site and check which ones you already (at least I think).
