I am annoyed that I cannot block spam email in gmail and create a blocked sender's list like I can in hotmail.
I do think one should have this option automatically as part of the account facility. (You shouldn't have to pay extra for it!!)
Then you can choose who or not you wish to block. All I can do is just delete them but they keep coming much to my frustration!!

Come on Gmail!! Move with the times!!

What if I'm a doctor?! And I received an email with the word, Viagra, Pfizer, etc from a patient?! Gmail puts it on spam folder because the email you received may not be a spam at all.. Gmail may be uber-effective when it comes to filtering spam, but it is not arrogant to the point that they will delete those emails they detected as spam -- because they might be wrong. Who knows?!?

What is REALLY wanted is to immediately dump any email containing the words Viagra, or Pfizer, or Sex or Russian Wives or such.
Wouldn't be too hard for Google or any other provider to allow a filter to do just this. Other providers do
So why on earth are providers interested in keeping this unwanted junk on their servers? Beats me.
You could easily have this as a personal choice - and - please note I DO NOT mean put it/them in a bin, I mean wipe such content as a direct choice of the email user.
Expect fertile brains will invent a 'why', I already feel ojectivists tiny minds at work

i get a lot of spam mails . Ofcourse, they go to spam folder automatically and stay there for one month. May be useful to some people sometimes. But I want to have an option in this respect. I would like to have options like a) 1 hour b) 1 day c) one week etc. It should be possible for Google to provide this facility.

You can certainly do any of the above .. or you can filter and apply a label, or immediately trash it. Spam will delete it after 30 days. A hidden label/folder stays as long as you want.

You cant make your email "invalid" at the server or send back an "addressee" unknown - that would be gnice ( 8-)>

I think it's great that gmail doesn't delete the all spam emails, but puts them into a separate folder... some times there is a mistake in determining the spam mail.. in that case you can go through your spam folder to find out the missing mail... i have done it... deleting all spams after finding them would not be a tough job for Google, but deleting one of our important mails would be inconvenient for us..

FYI - Gmail does not block spam, it only marks it as spam and directs it to another folder. This is so not blocking, the spam will continue to come regardless if you mark it or not.

What the web needs is a real spam blocker that never reaches its destination. Block it back to the point of origin.

Yeah same here, most of my spam is blocked...the only spam that gets through is when I sign up for something and then they start bombarding you with email newsletters, etc. It's not really spam in the traditional sense, so I just use these hacks for that sort of stuff.

Interesting tips, will have to try them out.

I must say though that Gmail's Spam filters works wonders. I rarely have to label something as Spam as it usually picks them automatically.
