Portable digital photo albums – Store, organize and create HD slideshows of photos

Christmas is only a day or two away, so if you’re looking for some nice gifts, why not check out a portable digital photo album. I’m not talking about online web-based photo-album software like Picasa Web Albums or Flickr, etc, but actual hardware devices that can store, organize and display your digital photos wherever you go, even onto an HDTV.

If you’re a hardcore photographer and you have lots of high-definition photos that you would like to display on your high-definition TV, then you might want to check out the new Sony HDMS-S1D Digital Photo Album for those people who want to archive, organize, and enjoy professional slideshows of their digital photos.

This little device is sweet! It’s an 80-GB storage and slideshow unit featuring HDMI output for HDTV’s! Also, it can import photos in various methods, including from flash media, CD/DVD drive, or from Ethernet. It has powerful slideshow creation software that creates stunning and professional slideshows instantly.

You can also connect up a USB printer that support PictBridge to print pictures and scrap-book style photos. With 80GB of storage, it can support up to 50,000 high-def digital photos. It also supports up to 3,000 photo albums and the ability to review, edit, rotate, delete and arrange photos for the slideshow. Using the xScrap application, you can create a digital scrapbook also.

Currently, it’s selling for about $400, but it’s worth the price if you’re a digital photography buff and really want something nice. You can also share photos with others by saving them to CD, DVD or to a flash memory card directly from the device.

If that’s too big for you, there are a few other digital photo album units that you might be interested in. One that I like is the Photoshare Digital Photo Album and Frame that costs around $99, but includes a 7-inch screen, supports SD and memory sticks formats, has slideshow playback software and allows connectivity to your PC, Mac, of TV. It does not support HDMI, but that’s fine if you’re looking for something smaller and cheaper.

Finally, if you’re looking for something even smaller, you can check out the PictureBook Pocket Digital Photo Album with a 3.5 inch screen. This little device doesn’t have many features, but it’s small and can store up to 500 photos using 64MB of built-in memory. You can add an SD card to hold digital photos if you like. However, it does not connect out to a TV like the other two digital photo albums.
