Can’t wait for new hybrid hard drives!

This is going to speed up computer performance a lot and for once it’s something other than the processor!!! Yes a processor can make the computer do more calculations per second, but if the processor can’t get the data fast enough from the hard drive, then it doens’t really matter how much it can process!! It’s the whole weakest link of the chain concept.

Basically a hybrid hard drive will have both a regular hard drive that spins and a onboard flash memory module capable of holding up to 256MB. Now only is it going to be faster (becuase flash memory can be accessed many times faster than traditional spinning platter hard drives), it’s going to be a lot more reliable! There are no moving parts…think about the last time you had a problem with your camera memory card or stick?? You can throw that thing around, step on it, drop it water sometimes and it still works! You bump your laptop too hard and who knows what will happen!

And since Microsoft only keeps making it’s operating system larger and larger, it’s about time someone came in and took it upon themselves to speed up boot times. With the hybrid hard drives it might be possible to boot Windows directly from the Flash memory!!! I’ll post some stats once those come out!

So finally Samsung is coming out with one and hopefully this should be the begining in a major shift towards these new types of drives!
