Get help choosing a candidate for the 2008 Presidential Election

Posted on December 6, 2007 at 9:43 am

2008 is still a month around the corner and judging by the amount of media attention, it seems like we are only weeks away from the Presidential Election. This election will probably be one of the toughest for people to decide who to vote for because of the sheer number of candidates, especially the number of star power candidates like Barack Obama, Hilary Clinton, and Rudolph Giuliani. If you’re not sure who to vote for, don’t worry, you’re not alone!

Luckily, there are a number of interesting web sites out there that you can use to help you decide who is the best candidate for you depending on your beliefs and values. So if you want to know how the candidates have voted on core issues such as the death penalty, education, guns, same-sex marriage, and more, check these sites out.

2008 Presidential Election Candidates on the Issues - This site is great. It consists of ONE page which lists all of the candidates across the top and lists all of the hot issues down the side. The cells of the table are filled with 6 different icons, Supports, Opposes, Supported before/Opposes now, Supports phased withdrawal, Unknown, and other. Very simple, yet perfect for anyone who wants to get a quick overview of the voting pattern for any candidate.

OnTheIssues - Another great site that gives the same basic information as the above-mentioned site, but in a lot more detail. Click on any of the pictures across the top and you can browse through in-depth voting records on just about any issue you can think of. The cool thing about this site is that it contains the voting record on one issue, i.e. Abortion, from the first vote ever cast by that candidate to the most recent. It also contains quotes spoken by the candidate on each issue. Finally, at the bottom it gives a nice summary of what topics and issues the candidate opposes and what issues they support.

Project Vote Smart - Another really great site for getting even more info on candidates and their campaigns. Using this site, you can not only get the voting records, you can also see things such as campaign finances, Interest Group ratings, speeches and public statements, and issue positions. You also get a lot more biographical information on the candidates, including numbers and addresses for getting into contact with their offices.

Connect2Elect - Finally, if all of that is too much trouble for you still, then check out Connect2Elect. Create an account and start clicking on issues or topics that you agree with or believe in. As you select more pins, you’ll get a list of candidates that your core values match with. In this way, you can see who matches with you the closet based on the number of issues that are in common. I really like this interactive questionnaire to help me decide easier!

Hopefully, this will help some individuals in their candidate decisions by shedding some light on the candidates positions or “flips”! With so much media hype and bickering between candidates, it’s sometimes hard to get a real sense of what a person really represents. Enjoy!

It’s actually pretty simple. You have to first ask yourself a few questions: 1)Do I want taxes to stay low so I can keep and spend more of MY hard-earned money and not have it go to some sorry, lazy person that just sits around on their duff waiting for a check from the Government? 2) Do I want the Government controling Health Care and other aspects of my life? - We all know how they handle things at the VA and in disasters like Katrina. 3)Do we want to have control of our borders so we know exactly who is here, what they intend to do while here in our country, and what health issues, if any, they have that could potentially harm our citizens, and are they coming here to work and obey our laws and assimilate into our society? Or are they here to rob, rape or kill our citizens? 4) Do I want a President that isn’t going to turn-tail and run from the fight against Islamo-facism and the global war on terror, sending a message of weakness to the rest of the world?

If you answered YES to any of the above, vote REPUBLICAN!

If you answered NO, stick your head back in the sand, and vote DEMOCRAT. Just Remember that this last bunch of Dems that were voted into office have a lower approval rating than President Bush. You get what you vote for folks!

The comments from Marcus make it painfully obvious as to how and why an utterly incompetent doofus was “elected” President and then inexplicably “re-elected” after bungling his way through his first term.

I really don’t know where to start, and I know I could never convey to Marcus why his comments are so moronic. It’s unfortunately a fact that there are millions and millions of morons out there — probably hanging on every word out of Rush Dumbaugh’s mouth — who will vote for any Republican slop that’s thrown in the trough.

My only hope is that Marcus and his ilk will be too dumb to find their polling place or remember what day the election is or something. Or maybe he’ll suddenly come to the realization that “I really just too dumb to vote.” Do us all a favor and stay home, Marcus. Thanks in advance.
