Looking for free virtual desktop software? A common usability problem with the Windows desktop is that it becomes slightly cluttered when you open many applications at once. It’s even worse when they are grouped together. Imagine the hassle in finding the one window that you need if you open, let say, 20 applications at once.
In Linux based machines, there has long been a solution to this and it is called the virtual desktop manager. A virtual desktop manager allows you to have more than one desktop at once and for each desktop, you can have multiple open Windows.
This way, you can open, organize many open Windows into separate desktops and switch between them with ease. Thanks to the creation of Dexpot virtual desktop manager, Windows users can look forward for a tidier, clutter-free Windows desktop.
Dexpot allows you to have a maximum of 20 extra virtual desktops at once in your Windows PC. Therefore, you can open as many windows and desktops that you need. A good way to use Dexpot is to open application windows from the same category into each virtual desktop – you can have one desktop with all your Internet tools opened, another one will all your blogging tools, one for just email opened and more.
This way, you can easily recognize a desktop based on its function and be more productive in doing your work. To switch from a desktop to another, simply press Ctrl+1 for desktop number one, Ctrl+2 for desktop number two and so on.

Is this better than virtual desktop manager “Desktops” by sysinternals?
It FAR surpasses “Desktops” by sysinternals in every respect. “Desktops” is pretty simplistic in function. If all you want to do is use a hotkey to switch your virtual desktops Dexpot is still the preferable choice. You can use the Desktop Manager or not. You can choose how the sytem tray displays the Dexpot icon or you can hide it completely.
Something this article doesn’t mention is that you don’t even have to install it on your system; it’s completely portable. You can keep it on a USB drive and use it on your computer at work. If you choose to store the portable exe in a folder on your hard drive, you can STILL configure it to startup with Windows.
Every feature of this program is fully configurable. You can move individual windows from one desktop to another, copy a window to all desktops and close a window on one or all desktops. I feel like I need to say “But wait, that’s not all!” Seriously, this little app is amazing and I can’t imagine not using it. It’s also completely free with no nags… of course, if you use it and like it, the developers won’t turn away your donation offer.
