How to send large files over the Internet for free

Posted on June 13, 2008 at 5:19 am

Too many times I’ve found myself hating my current email provider because of its sending file limits. Emailing large file attachments can easily become a major headache. Of course there are tons of free online services that allow you to bypass this aggravation, but not all of them work well.

It seems as though I’ve tried virtually everyone of them, but still haven’t found the one that works best for me. Thankfully, the Internet has a constantly growing selection of online services and applications that make transporting large files from one destination to the next.

Docstoc OneClick is a free downloadable application for Windows computers only. Instead of being held back because of your email provider’s sending limits, you’ll be able to send large file attachments whenever necessary. Users can get started by registering for a free account on the Docstoc.com homepage.

After clicking the “join” link, you’ll be immediately asked to enter your desired username, password, email address and the confirmation text. Within a few short minutes, a message will be sent to your registered email address.

Download the Docstoc OneClick application by selecting the “try it now” button in the center of the homepage. You’ll have the opportunity to read a little bit more about the application and even view a helpful video about its uses and benefits.

Once your curiosity has been fed, click the “download now” button on this page and get started with the entire installation process. Currently the Docstoc OneClick application is only meant for computer users with a Windows Operating System. Hopefully, in the future this will change and Mac users will be able to use it as well.

After you have downloaded Docstoc OneClick onto your computer system and launch the application , it will take a couple of minutes to install the necessary files for you to begin your uploading adventure. There is a limit of 50 MB per uploaded file. Just right click your chosen file attachment and it will be quickly uploaded into the application.

Once this has been completed, an email window will automatically open with an included link to the file. Anyone that receives your email will be able to easily view the file online via the Docstoc viewer or they can conveniently download the file to their own computer system.

One of the best features of the Docstoc OneClick application is that you can make a file private or public. Choosing to make your uploaded file private means that only you and your intended party will have access to it. Others will not be able to view it on Docstoc’s online database.

Although I am very happy with Docstoc OneClick so far, there are still a couple of things that prevent me from making it my primary filesharing application. It does not currently work with popular web based email services such as Gmail or Yahoo. Another disappointment is that users aren’t able to upload any sort of multimedia file. Docstoc OneClick is meant to work only with PDF, Excel, or Word documents.

There are plenty of other free applications that allow online sharing without limiting the types of files that can be sent, but Docstoc OneClick still has great potential. Users can view their documents without always having to download them.

This is a major bonus when you just don’t have the time to do so. If you have been searching for an alternative to sending large documents via your email service provider, then consider using Docstoc OneClick and save yourself some aggravation.

I generally use filemail.com. It is the best for me as at now. I also tried yousendit.com and mailbigfile.com. But presently, filemail.com is the best.

I am currently developing a web site that allows you to securely share files that are too big to e-mail. There are no file or size limits, no software to download and install, and it is 100% free. It also works on all platforms, including Windows, Mac and Linux.

The site is http://fileai.com/, and we are currently in open beta. If you happen to stop by and give it a try, I’d appreciate any feedback.

    Thanks! :)

    - Up to 1 gb, easy to use, no registration required or software to download, safe, and secure.
