i downloaded latest version of java and now pictures wont open on aol and i get error message about turning off java script – i still have older version on computer and would rather use that one

I just discovered JavaRa tonight. It apparently removed the old versions of the JRE, but somehow (unrelated to JavaRa), I managed to screw up installing JRE 6u12 (or whatever), and now when I try to uninstall it, I’m told: “This is already installed. Do you want to reinstall it?” If I say Yes, another message pops up that says, “This is only valid on already installed software” (I’m paraphrasing.)

So which is it? Either it’s installed and I want to install over it, or it’s not installed, and I’d like to install it!!!?!?! As it stands, I can’t use various other software because a) I stupidly screwed up my JRE installation, and b) Sun hates me and made the JRE installer as dumb as I am.

Does anyone know how to fix this? I’m a registry n00b, but I’m getting desparate!!!

The newest versions of the JRE now patch the old version so this has become obsolete.
