Jing is a lot better than it used to be. It used to crash a lot. Now that TechSmith has taken it over, it works pretty well. It can capture screenshots or videos of your desktop on Windows and Mac.

I’ve found that Jing is not very good. It crashes a lot on my computer. The best screen capturing program I have found so far is ScreenHunter because it works directly from the web browser.

This is not free. It only makes 5 min videos not more than that

I think JOCR is another option as it has built-in character recognition so that you can get text out of your screen-shot.
