GMDesk – Open Google web apps as desktop applications

Google has some of the most popular applications available on the web. Check your email, create or edit documents, or read the latest changes on your favorite blogs. Accessing some of these useful applications while on the go gives you freedom from your personal or work computer.

With Google’s web based applications, you’re no longer tied to one location to take care of your needs. However, there will come a time when you don’t want to work through a browser. Thankfully, the Internet has plenty of tools to make your life much easier.

GMDesk brings your Google applications one step closer to you. Instead of accessing them via your computer’s Internet browser, you can launch it just like other downloadable applications. To get started, navigate to program’s homepage. You’ll need Adobe Air already installed on your computer system for it to work successfully. If you don’t already have it, visit Adobe’s homepage to download Adobe Air.

GMDesk is free to download and use. It only takes a second to configure it and start working. Just log into it like you would through your browser. Once this has been done, your personal settings and preferences will automatically be migrated to computer via GMDesk. You won’t have to worry about a complicated starting process that takes up too much of your valuable time.

You’ll finally have the chance to break Microsoft’s domination over your computer. Send and receive emails with Gmail by opening your installed GMDesk program. Once you’ve finished working on that, move over to Google’s other programs. Switch between each one by clicking the “Google Applications” link at the top of the menu bar. Some of Google’s familiar programs will be available for you to choose. They include Calendar, Docs, Maps, Reader, and Picasa.

After clicking the application you’d like to work with, it will immediately appear before you. Begin working with it the same way you would in its browser based environment. The biggest difference would be that you can now keep your Google applications separate from your web surfing.

Minimize your GMDesk without worrying about it getting in the way of your Internet browsing time. It comes in very hand when you don’t want to even deal with a browser, just simply launch GMDesk and only access the Google applications you want to work with.

Download GMDesk to your computer and give it a test run. Although it may not have all of the “bells and whistles” of most Microsoft applications, you can still perform some useful tasks with it. The simple and familiar interface of Google makes it a breeze to work in. Best of all it’s completely free to use and won’t cost you a penny.
