WriteMonkey – Creative writing without the distractions

As a blogger, I always find it a challenge to write amongst distractions… there are my chat mates who’ll buzz me when they want to share something amusing online, there are also those incoming e-mails that demand my attention, not to mention the other applications I have running on the taskbar like media players, messengers, browsers, etc, etc.
I am a multitasking user so I don’t usually prefer closing everything just to concentrate on one task, but this time I will show you different tool that will let you really concentrate on a single task.
With WriteMonkey, the editor is shown full screen. No other thing will get your attention since the interface is all pure dark in the background. It will only be your typed text that will appear on the screen. It is like typing on an old computer with black background and green fonts.
Do not be fooled by its simplistic interface – it has some powerful features that I have not seen in basic text editors. If you right click the screen it will pop the options that you can perform with the tool:
The menus are grouped so you can easily access any operation like New, Open, Save and Save As. It also has a nice Jump utility so you can easily navigate the text by paragraphs, bookmarks or headings.
It has more features than it seems to have like spell checker, print preview and progress check. With spell checker you can check for wrong spellings but it is interesting to note that its spell checker has noted that “blogger” is not a valid word. Maybe it uses an old set of dictionary words.
I am pretty impressed with this tool. If you need to concentrate on your writing and not be distracted by other programs – this is the tool for you.
Ben Carigtan shows you how it’s done.

I am definitely the easily distracted writer. I blame the internet for being so amusing.
