TugZip, een alternatief aan WinZip

Het zoeken vrije zip/compressiesoftware? ZIP, 7Z, CABINE, en GZIP; dit zijn enkel een korte lijst van samengeperste dossierformaten u kunt voordien ontmoet hebben. Wat is een samengeperst dossier u vraagt? Voor een basisniveau, is een samengeperst dossier één die één of andere graad van ongebruikte ruimte heeft die voor het krimpen van de daadwerkelijke grootte van een dossier wordt genomen. Dit is vooral nuttig voor programma's die tot bovenmatige ongebruikte ruimte met gegevensdossiers leiden.

Als voorbeeld, als u een nieuw document van het Microsoft Word, cre�ërt en slechts een paar woorden op het (gebruikend de woorden „dit en dat“) typt en het als van Word doc.- dossier bewaart; het is 24K (kilobytes) in grootte. Gebruikend een basisredacteur, zoals Notepad, typt u de zelfde woorden, sparen het dossier als Txt- dossier; en de grootte is slechts 1K. Het woord documenteert u enkel maakte is 24 keer de grootte van het eenvoudige tekstdossier. Verleend, exponentieel groeit het het documentbegin van Word bij 24K, het niet. Maar dit zal helpen om een punt te illustreren.

Zeg dat ons doel zoveel mogelijk harde aandrijvingsplaats te besparen is. Wij zullen het test1.doc- dossier onderaan wat willen krimpen om dit te verwezenlijken. Ons in deze kwestie bijstaan, willen wij een makkelijk te gebruiken compressienut. WinZip zou boete werken, maar misschien wilt u iets volgens de lijnen van een nul kost, freeware oplossing. Hoe een ongeveer programma genoemd TugZip?

Bekijkend de twee dossiers voor ons, is het tekstdocument klein genoeg, zo draai de aandacht aan het document van Word. Veronderstellend hebben wij geïnstalleerdej TugZip, al moet men doen is met de rechtermuisknop klikt op test1.doc, dan klik op Add aan: test1.zip.

Nu bevat ons nieuw test1.zip- dossier de oorspronkelijke gegevens, maar zonder de ongebruikte ruimte. Het dossier is effectief verminderd tot ongeveer 8% van de originele grootte. Wij kunnen het oorspronkelijke test1.doc- dossier nu schrappen aangezien wij „zipped“ exemplaar hebben.

Terwijl WinZip een aardigere het kijken grafische interface zou kunnen hebben, TugZip de zelfde dingen doet zonder uw portefeuille te verlichten. TugZip kan twee dingen doen die normaal iemand $80 met WinZip zouden kosten. De basisversie WinZip is $30, en het extra hulpmiddel om zelf-haalt compressiedossiers (iemand anders kan hen met de behoefte aan WinZip of TugZip openen) te creëren, looppas $50.

De waarheid wordt verteld, heeft TugZip verscheidene eigenschappen, en ik kon voor uren gaan; maar ik zal benadrukken wat geloof ik zijn grote twee: Compressie en Extractie, en het maken van zelf-Haalt Dossiers. Eerst tot knuppel, de de Compressie en eigenschappen van de Extractie.

TugZip kan leiden tot en uittreksel van een verscheidenheid van formaten. Natuurlijk, gemeenschappelijkste zeer goed behandelt, .ZIP, het. It can compress files and folders to .ZIP, .SQX, .LZH, .7Z (heavy compression, takes a while, grab some coffee), .BZ2, and .TAR (Linux tarball) file formats, along with a few others. Linux users may recognize the .BZ2 and .TAR formats.

On the extraction side of the equation, TugZip recognizes a wider list of file formats that it can extract from. These include .GZ (GZIP), .JAR (Java Archive format), .RPM (Red Hat Package Manager), as well as those listed above in the creation section. Within TugZip, should you click on Options, Configuration, then locate the Associations heading, you can find the list of everything TugZip supports.

Though WinZip requires you make a separate purchase for its self-extracting add-on utility, TugZip has this tool bundled in with the installation file. From the TugZip menu, under Program Files, or All Programs, you will find the TUGZip Self-Extractor. This is the starting point for creating a compressed file that can be opened on its own.

To begin, you are asked to choose a compressed file that you wish to convert to a self-extracting file. For this example, we will use the test1.zip created earlier. TugZip typically chooses the Standard option at this point. Right now, you could click on Finish, and you have your new file; however, you can also click Next for a couple more options.

In the next screen, you can specify where the compressed file will go when the file is opened. This can be handy for moving large groups of similar files between computers on a network, when you want the files to go to the same location each time. This screen also makes available an option to run a command-line script after file extraction, as well as the ability to ask the user if they want to overwrite current files with copies from the self-extracting archive file (Prompt overwrite).

Once you click Finish, you will have a new file, with the same name, and an .EXE extension. For the sake of argument, I would recommend using the .ZIP format, or others, for sending compressed files through email. Every Anti-Spam and Email Anti-Virus tool that I know of will eradicate .EXE files when spotted; if it does not ask you first.

TugZip can also create very large compressed files as well as password encrypt file and folders. It is lightweight, and will not run your computer into the ground, unless you are constantly compressing DVD’s worth of data. Without a doubt, it is a very handy free software tool to have around.

You may also like to try iZarc Which is very powerful and can handle many many file types.
also XP SP3 is available for download.See http://www.indiandevs.com/tech.....-download/ for the link

Thanks for the comments! I recall using IZarch before, and it a good piece of software. I know that IZarch, Tugzip, ZipGenius, and 7-Zip; among others, are choices I have heard that people use instead of Winzip.

I used to like Tugzip but there were a few issues with it - it’s so long ago I can’t remember
Plus development is done by just one guy and he was having trouble keeping up with bug fixes and updates
I just checked the Tugzip site and it seems while it is still available it has basically been mothballed

When I changed from Tugzip I went to 7zip.
7zip is opensource and includes a self-extract creator too
The interface is a little sparse but it is by far THE most powerful archiver available and being OS is cross platform
So I agree - for god’s sake don’t pay for Winzip - but go for 7zip at http://www.7-zip.org
