Lately, I have been searching for the perfect screensaver for my computer. I finally got tired of looking at the same pictures over and over again. However, scouring the Internet for images that would make me happy was not an easy task. Just when I had decided to give up hope, I came across a useful web browser addon.
This handy little tool works in Internet Explorer, Firefox, and even Safari. After downloading it and using it, I soon discovered that it behaves similar to a screensaver. The only difference between this tool and a traditional screensaver is that it is far better. PicLens is the name of this marvelous addon. Mac and Windows users can benefit from its existence because it works on both operating systems. Not only is it extremely versatile, but it will also bring your web photos to life.
PicLens operates like an Internet photo viewer. Supported sites will be able to display their images in a desktop like fashion with a 3D effect. Instead of looking at the same boring, flat images over and over again, the color detail becomes more enhanced and beautiful. I was able to test it on two different computers and it works very well.
The first computer system I tried it on had a 15 inch CRT monitor, but the photos were still gorgeous. When I tried it on another computer system with a 20 inch LCD monitor, I could hardly take my eyes off the screen. This is one addon that I will not be taking off my computer systems anytime soon.
Photos are beautifully pulled out and then displayed like a slideshow. Users can find their favorite photos on DeviantArt, Flickr, Picasa, Google, and a few other sites. One of the best features of this free addon is the way it presents photos in a “Cover Flow” style. Photo results are then neatly stacked together in a 3D space. Doing it this way makes browsing through them an entirely cool experience. PicLens does an incredible job of incorporating this effect into its awesome functionality.
Installing PicLens was a cinch. Just visit the homepage and then download it. Once it has been installed on your computer system, it will conveniently become an addon for your chosen browser. In order to activate the PicLens features, you can easily place your mouse over an image and click the PicLens button. Doing this will allow you to view beautiful pictures in a fullscreen slideshow.
I was so surprised to see how easily I could perform a search on images of sunsets and snow. Once the results were displayed, I could go forward and backward to each desired photo. Another useful aspect of this tool was that I could just sit back and let the slideshow play all of the gorgeous photos. It was ten times better than an ordinary screensaver. Finding PicLens has expanded the way I look at photos on the internet. This little addon is completely free and capable of operating flawlessly in multiple web browsers.

I just came across PicLens too — really cool. They just added YouTube support; the demonstration shows the video playing within the 3d wall. Haven’t had a chance to check this, since my current machine (Win2k) doesn’t seem to be supported by the latest version, but it looks pretty good.
Incidentally for the screensaver that you were looking for, Google has a pretty good RSS-enabled one, Google Photos Screensaver, that is available in a pack on their site and individually elsewhere, if you search for it. Mosaica is another one, which pulls photos off of Flickr — you should definitely check this out. One of the nicest screensavers I’ve run across.
