Maxthon – Feature Rich, Free Web Browser
Posted on May 25, 2008 at 5:09 am
When I was first introduced to the Internet in 1995, there were only two popular web browsers – Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator. Today, Netscape Navigator is nowhere to be seen while Internet Explorer still reigns as the most widely used web browser.
However, with the emergence of free, feature rich, plugin-enabled web browsers like Opera and Firefox, Internet Explorer is facing much tougher competitors this time around. To make this browser battle much more interesting, Maxthon is yet another free web browser that you can use as an alternative to Internet Explorer.
Maxthon is a powerful, secure, tabbed web browser which a rich set of features to enhance your web browsing experience. It is very easy to use and once installed, will work right out of the box. Moreover, Maxthon is extremely configurable and you can make it work as you want it too – swap, add, remove, or change toolbars, icons, menus, colors, skins, etc.

Maxthon Features
Besides all the basic features that web browsers should have, Maxthon developers took the extra mile to come up with innovative features that aim to win the hearts of many Internet users. Here are some of its unique features:
-
Anti Freeze – too many open tabs, AJAX based websites are some of the things that can freeze your browser (which leads to constant cursing etc.). Maxthon tales care of this problem for you, in style.
-
Mouse Gestures – example usage: hold your right mouse button and move the mouse cursor to the left to go back to a previous page, and more. Cool eh?

-
Super Drag and Drop – example usage: select a keyword from a web page and drop it to the search bar for instant, quick web search.
-
Smart Acceleration – to speed up the loading of your favorite sites, add it to the Super MSA list!
-
Undo List – closed a tab accidentally? No problem! Click on this toolbar icon of instant relief!
-
Magic Fill – a built in, instant form filler for Maxthon.
-
Online Favorite Service – if you choose to use Maxthon’s web services, you can access all of your bookmarks on any other computer with Maxthon installed.
-
Feed Reader – subscribe and read your daily RSS fix from within the browser. No extra tools needed!
-
Super Proxy – Maxthon allows you to switch to a different proxy server automatically with its Advanced Proxy Rule.
-
URL Key – set up instant shortcut keys to access one or more websites in a single click. For example, press F1 to access Google.

-
Ad Hunter – powerful, built-in online advertisement blocker.

-
Screen Capture – you can capture a selected area, full screen, a region, current web page and all web pages with ease.
-
Web Sniffer – set and capture a custom file type from any website with ease, e.g. FLV videos from Youtube.
-
Clean Private Data – secure your browsing tracks manually or automatically on browser shutdown.
-
Plugins support – there are more than 1400 available plugins for you to choose from that extend the functionalities of Maxthon.
-
Skins – change the appearance of Maxthon from various user designed skins.
-
Filter Packs – this option makes it possible for you to change a web page source code e.g. remove ads on a particular website.
What I really love about Maxthon is that it offers a whole bunch of new, innovative features than most of the web browsers out there. I was quite surprised by the fact that it does not eat up a lot of memory compared to other web browsers such as Mozilla Firefox. With over 100 million satisfied downloaders and being recently added to the WebWare 100 2008 Winner’s List, you surely don’t want to miss the chance to try out this fantastic, free web browser. Download Maxthon today!
