This nifty little program provides backup, archiving, and version tracking for files and folders. It runs in the background and monitors the files and folders that you specify for changes (such as when you when you save and overwrite a file) so that you can revert back to older versions if you want to.
This can be really useful if you’re in an industry where you have to keep track of a lot of standard operating procedures, protocols or processes and must have documentation of all changes or modifications. If you’re a small company, this is an easy and free way to maintain version control.
Once installed, tell File Hamster which files or folders you want to monitor or exclude. The program will monitor them in real time and any time there is a change, File Hamster will create an automatic backup before the change is made. It also has a icon in the system tray where you can leave notes or comments whenever it detects a change. You’ll have a nice trail of on-the-fly incremental backups without having to do anything! Great if you want some version control for documents or spreadsheets.
