Free portable CD burner software – CDBurnerXP

I’ve written extensively about free CD/DVD burning software before, such as ImgBurn, and even a list of free Blu-ray burning applications. I’ve also written about some cool programs out there like PortableApps, software that lets you run your desktop apps directly from your USB drive!
Now wouldn’t it be cool if you could combine these two together into free CD burning software that you can install and run directly from your USB flash drive? Well luckily, now you can using the portable version of CDBurnerXP.
CDBurnerXP is a free burning software that can handle just about anything Nero or Roxio can, like burning data, audio, and ISO image files. It can even burn video DVDs if your folder structure is setup correctly and the videos are in VOB format.
You can download the portable version here which has all of the features of the desktop version. The great thing about portable software is that you can put it into any computer running Windows 2000 or higher and be able to burn CDs, DVDs, and even Blu-ray discs (if the drive supports burning, of course)!
You can also create bootable CDS using CDBurnerXP and convert NRG/BIN files to ISO images. If you want to create your own ISO file also, it can do that! So if you go to a friends house and want to borrow their software, just plugin in your USB drive, run CDBurnerXP and make a copy of the CD or save it as an ISO image onto your flash drive! Nice!
It can also print simple CD covers and can be run using the command line. It supports IDE, USB, Firewire and SCSI drives for maximum compatibility.
If you are loving this portable software, check out my previous posts on Essential PIM, a portable address book, contact manager, and calendar software that can be run from your USB drive!
Or check out Scribus, a portable desktop publishing tool and i.Scribe, a portable email client. There is tons of free software out there that are made with portable versions also, so make sure to do a Google search on some of your favorite programs to see if there is one for it. Enjoy!

Aseem, could you also do a review of download managers. Thanks and great blog.
I don’t see a download link on this page, and I can’t find a portable version at http://cdburnerxp.se/en/download
I’ve never had much luck with portable CD and DVD burning software, between crashing and not detecting drives, so I was really pleased to read about the portable version of CDBurnerXP. I’ve been using the installable version on and off for a while, and it does almost everything that paid-for software does, often faster and with less fuss.
The only thing it can’t do is to convert video files into a standard video DVD, but I’ve discovered a workaround for this in the form of DVDStyler. It’s a free program which can convert several video formats to DVD compliant .vob files, create menus and also generate the folder structure. There’s even a portable version, available from http://sourceforge.net/projects/dvdstylerpe, but I’ve never tried using this.
Sorry about that, I just added the link in the post. Here it is also:
