Enso Words – Free online spell checker

Posted on February 15, 2008 at 6:39 am

Firstly, I have to admit that English is not my mother tongue. That is why sometimes, when typing a post or an article, I wrongly misspelled some difficult words. Thankfully, the spell check feature built inside my blogging client or Microsoft Word program plays an important role in helping me to express myself correctly in English.

Having said that, not all applications out there have a built in spell checker, for example, instant messaging client like Yahoo Messenger or Microsoft Outlook Express. Wouldn’t it be nice if there was an Outlook Express spell checker software? That is the reason why you need Enso Words – the ultimate, free online spell checker!

Previously, I’ve posted about Enso Launcher – a cool, free application launcher created by Humanized. Enso Words is yet another application from the Enso project, so it works the same as Enso Launcher – press the Caps Lock key, hold it down, enter a particular command and release the Caps lock key to trigger a desired action.

Enso Words Features

The beauty of Enso Words is that it will work with any program, anytime that you want it to. You can use Enso Words while you are typing an email, writing notes in Notepad, renaming a file, typing an URL and more. Here are the full features of Enso Words:

  • Spell check words inside any program with the “spell check” command
  • Checks a word definition with the “define” command. Enso will return a definition of words from the Answers.com website.
  • Find synonyms (word of a similar meaning) of a selected word with the “thesaurus” command.
  • Count how many words that you have written with the “word count” command.

  • Count how many characters typed in a text with the “character count” command.
  • Complete a spell check and return the correct spelling of words with the “done” command.

Example Usage of Enso Words

In this example, I will show you the steps to spell check texts inside an instant messaging application:

1- Make sure Enso is running by pressing and holding down the Caps Lock key on your keyboard. A welcoming message by Enso should appear on top left of the screen.

2- Type some text messages inside your instant messaging conversation box. Next, highlight the message that you have typed.

3- Press and hold down the Caps Lock key. While it is still pressed, type “spell” – you don’t even have to write the entire “spell check” word! Release the Caps Lock key and Enso will open the “Humanized TaskBox” if there are any spelling mistakes in your text message.

4- Misspelled words will be highlighted in yellow. To make corrections, right click on a word and choose a suggested word from the list. Enso will also suggest some words if you attempt to correct spelling mistakes by typing additional characters or texts inside the taskbox.

5- Once you have finished correcting those words, issue the “done” command to return to your chat session. Again, press and hold the caps lock down, type “done” and release the caps lock key.

6- The text inside your chat session will be replaced with the corrected version based on the previous spell checking session.

Furthermore, all Enso Words feature will work with formatted text too so there is nothing to worry about spell checking texts with fancy word formats.
