Floola Review – An iTunes Replacement

Posted on February 24, 2008 at 7:06 am

Many iPod users hate working with iTunes. Not only can it be horribly temperamental, but it’s content isn’t all that great either. For many years, I put off purchasing an iPod because of these two simple things. However, there are some useful alternatives to iTunes that can change almost anyone’s mind.

This marvelous program works with every iPod flawlessly. Instead of letting iTunes hold you and your iPod hostage, give Floola a try. It is completely free and easy to operate. Downloading the file will only take about a second or two. Windows, Mac, and Linux users will find this useful tool a nice replacement for iTunes.

Floola has a simple interface that looks the same on all operating systems. It is not overloaded with unnecessary features that complicate things. Organizing your music, video, and podcast collection will be a breeze. Syncing between your iPod and computer can be done at faster speeds than iTunes on most Windows operating systems. This application is even smart enough to work with iTunes when it comes to importing your music library or playlists.

Floola can best be described as a well functioning jukebox with extra features. For a little more customization, it will download your existing album artwork when it syncs with your iPod. Video iPod users will definitely enjoy its capability to sync video from websites.

YouTube addicts can now take their favorite videos on the go. Instead of waiting until you access your home computer, you can hit the road with your videos securely stashed in your iPod. Just simply paste the URL of the web video you are interested in and it will be synced to your device.

Certain types of media have issues with iPods and are not compatible. In order to change this and make them talk to each other, you usually have to go through a long grueling process. Floola cuts out the middle man and handles this issue on its own in one simple process. This feature alone makes it a valuable asset to any multimedia lover. It conveniently does this for video and audio files. I certainly don’t remember iTunes ever doing that for me.

Another awesome benefit of Floola is its streaming capability. If you are a fan of internet radio, then you can enjoy them on your iPod as well. This application will easily support Last.fm streaming radio.

Although there are no other streaming radio stations to choose from, this is still a wonderful function. You will be able to create your personal playlist or import an older one. The built in search feature for Floola is very intuitive and will help you get rid of duplicate songs in your music library.

Anyone tired of using iTunes and its limitations will enjoy Floola. It is completely free from cost and has a full array of useful features. Being able to use it from multiple operating system platforms is a major bonus. It has a simple enough interface that will take you only a few seconds to understand.

Being able to have full control over the type of videos and music you place on your iPod is a wonderful thing. Instead of worrying about compatible audio or video files, just select and sync. Awesome program that works flawlessly.

I really hate iTune. Whenever i plug my iPod in someone’s computer, iTunes clears my playlists as it is not synchronized. Does this happen with Floola also ?

    Looks good.

Also try out Helium Music Manager, it rips, plays, tags, burns and all other stuff you need.

Yes…Can anyone please answer Madhur Kapoor’s question? I have the same question: I really hate iTunes. Whenever i plug my iPod in someone’s computer, iTunes clears my playlists as it is not synchronized. Does this happen with Floola also ?

When you plug in your ipod to someone elses computer, don’t hit the sync button, instead hit the cancel button and your playlist will remain intact. Floola can be used on multiple computers without that problem. You can even store Floola on your ipod and launch it on any computer you use.

Floola completely messed up my Ipod’s library and i had to return my Ipod to factory settings to get it to work again.
All the files were there, but Ipod said there was nothing.

Also when i tried to rename an artist using Floola my Ipod said SKREEEEEK !!!! and scared the S*** out of me. It did not break though.

From now on i’ll stick to Itunes. It may not be perfect, but at least it works.

For me the best iTunes alternative is definitively CopyTrans Manager.

Totally free, light and fast. For me CopyTrans Manager is better as Floola.

    I found it here: http://www.copytrans.net/copytransmanager.php

floola answered alot of wishes without having to have my iPod hacked!

Sam: same thing happend to me, so i plugged it back in to floola and it still populated the list. i just ejected it by holding down the SHIFT key and my iPod was back to normal! so, you might want to try that next time?

Bob: i have never used Floola to transfer files back to my PC, but there are several programs that will do it. Pod to PC is an example and i got it off of C-Net’s Downloads, i trust ALL of their downloads…NEVER had a problem with one, they’re legit!

as for me, i can’t use Floola right now? it keeps saying that another program has accessed my iPod and it won’t let me upload? i’ve gone through every program and process that populates my task manager and disabled everything i possibly could…i even uninstalled iTunes, still a no go? anyone have an answer to this one?

copytrans? copywhat is more like it. I have to select individual files to add them? or maybe drill down to a folder and select all? Where’s a gross option for grab everything/music/video from anywhere in this folder or subfolder?

    Hi All.

I strongly recommend Floola first. This enables you to copy your media files from your ipod back to your pc. I am using my ipod as an external disk as well and copied this application inside. Previously, I have tried copytrans manager (freeware) as well. If I am not mistaken, copytrans does not have export to PC function and adding photos into ipod required an additional paid application.

Wanted to share with you my thoughts and wishing all of you a good day!
