This is a very nice, simple enough, solution for keeping docs stored on your computer safe. However another way is to save you ’secrets’ in a secure SwissDisk account. SwissDisk is end-to-end encrypted, the ultimate in privacy. - If you use the web browser to upload files to SwissDisk.com, and delete/erase your history/tracks, then nobody will ever know you have a secure online drive.

- This also gives you the advantage of being able to securely access your files from any computer, anywhere in the world that you have internet access. You are the only one with a copy of your SwissDisk password, don’t lose it or you will lose all access to your account/files. Note, SwissDisk does not provide any password reset or recovery services. Not even SwissDisk employees have access to your password or account. This is just another reason why it’s so private and secure. Hiding your hard drive or a partition is a far more intense adventure than opening a free SwissDisk account.

Note, if you ask SwissDisk for more space they will generally give it to you, no questions asked! You can use a webDAV app or client to sync your files, calendar, contact list, etc. i.e. if changes are made then the software will make automatic updates to the files on SwissDisk. Some sync apps that work are GoodSync for Mac or PC, OmniFocus for iPhone, pader-sync for Droid or Blackberry - stay safe out there my friends!

So this program allows you to password protect a file correct? But what if you copy it to a computer that does not have the program installed? Will it ask for a password or what will happen exactly?

Excellent post! I've also been looking for software to protect some sensitive text files that I have stored on my PC. This should work well.

Finally a program that actually works! I have read and downloaded so many crap programs to "lock" and "secure" text files, but this one actually gets the job done. Thanks for testing it before writing about it. ;)

What's cool about Omziff is that it runs on its own without having to install it. So, all you have to do is move the encrypted file and the Omziff.exe file to the other computer. There, you can run Omziff and decrypt the file, as long as you remember which encryption algorithm you selected when you encrypted the file.

We're glad we could be of help.

This is really cool, thanks for sharing. By the way, if I wanted to move a text file to another computer, would it still be encrypted? And how would I be able to open it on that computer?
