Download OpenProj – A free windows alternative to Microsoft Project

Working as a IT Analyst, I and other team members often have to mange several coding projects at once and this is usually done through a shared computer that runs Microsoft Project. It’s only installed on 2 computers because buying a license for the entire IT department would ruin our small IT budget! I’m sure if you work for a small business, you can understand our “rationing”.
Microsoft Project is a great project management tool for creating, managing, and analyzing projects schedules and deliverables, however, the Professional edition is currently selling for $599! That’s a lot of money! And if you want to run it off the server, you’ll have to fork over $1,500. Wouldn’t it be great if there was an open source version of Microsoft Project?
That’s why OpenProj comes in. It’s free, open source, runs on Windows, Mac, Linux, and UNIX, opens native Microsoft Project and Primavera files, and has a ton of features like Gantt Charts, Network Diagrams, WBS and RBS charts, and a lot more. Switching over to OpenProj is a piece of cake since it can already read your current Project files. Also, there is a very small learning curve because the software looks very similar to Microsoft Project in terms of the interface.
OpenProj has some of the most advanced scheduling resource, and cost algorithms currently built into software, making it useful for even the most complicated projects.
OpenProj also has a server app that can be used to browse projects from the web called Project-ON-Demand, which is not free, but not nearly as expensive as Project server.
Overall, a great desktop replacement for Project for businesses of any size! Enjoy!

Is it possible for me to open ‘OpenProj’ file in MS project, I have tried opening the MS Project XML file format created by ‘OpenProj’, I am getting some error.
