Digsby – Multiprotocol IM client and social network
Posted on June 4, 2008 at 5:22 am
Gradually, I’ve noticed that my instant messenger accounts have started to add up in a major way. Before I realized it, I had numerous friends on AIM, Yahoo, MSN, and Google Talk. Keeping track of each of them on an instant messenger client was too overwhelming and aggravating. It definitely slowed down the progress of my daily work tasks because my desktop was overloaded with open windows.
Thankfully, the Internet almost always has a solution to a problem. I got the bright idea to look for an instant messaging program that would allow me to easily integrate all of my contacts into one application. Not only would this save space, but it would be less aggravating to work with as well.

Digsby is an instant messaging application that works on a cross platform. It can be easily used on a Windows, Mac, or Linux computer. Internet users that have numerous contacts on several different chat clients can now merge them into one. Digsby also supports AIM, Yahoo, MSN, Jabber, ICQ, and Google Talk.
Once you download this program and start using it, you’ll instantly wonder how you ever survived without it. Each network works seamlessly with the other. You will have access to a few extra features that include, mail notifications, email replies, and friend requests from FaceBook or MySpace.

One of the coolest features of Digsby is the customization feature. You will be able to change the look and feel of the application without any major programming knowledge. It’s very user friendly and has a simple setup process.
Just simply download Digsby to your chosen computer, select tools from the menu, and then preferences. After doing this, you’ll be able to add all of your instant messenger accounts and email accounts. Within a few short minutes, Digsby will have you fully accessible to all of your friends.

Another useful feature of Digsby is the tabbed chat feature. Instead of becoming easily confused while chatting with several friends, you’ll be able to switch between the conversations via the tab function. Each friend will have their own tab and you’ll be able to communicate without a hassle. If you still feel as though your computer desktop is crowded, take full advantage of the hiding or autodocking feature. It will help to create a little extra space for your desktop.

Digsby is a very useful application for anyone that is constantly using several chat clients. Being able to switch between multiple conversations, receiving email notifications, and its easy configuration make it an award winning program. I have been using it on a regular basis and can’t imagine not having it. I love the cheery interface and the ton of features it provides. If you have been desiring a multi chat client that works well, then consider trying Digsby.
You can also check out Pidgin, another cool multiprotocol IM client that I wrote about last week on the site.

I have been using Digsby for quite sometime now and find it really useful as it also aggregates my email.
However due to non-availability of webcam support I need to keep going back to my Yahoo Messenger time and again
