The Best Digital Post-It Notes Software Available

Posted on February 6, 2008 at 7:31 am

If you’re like me, you’ve covered your desk with real post-it notes, but what if you could have digital post-it notes on your computer desktop as well? There are many different brands of digital post-it notes available that can help you organize your life – without cluttering up your desk! Here’s the low-down on the pros and cons of the different post-it notes for your desktop. And, at the bottom, the winner of the post-it note contest is announced at the bottom of this post!

3M Notes

3M Post-It Notes:

Where to download it: http://www.3m.com/us/office/postit/digital/digital_notes.html

How much does it cost: Free 30-day trial, then $19.99 to purchase

Features: Able to change the font style and size as well as the color and size of each post-it note. There are also alarms that you can set which will help you keep track of important dates.

Drawbacks: It sometimes takes a little while to load the program and the trial version has constant reminders about purchasing the full version.

dt Notes

dt Notes:

Where to download it:

Download.com

How much does it cost: Free

Features: This program has a feature that allows you to “stick a pin” in your post-it note and keep it always on top. It also has a handy note management feature that allows you to keep post-it notes without having them all displayed on your desktop at the same time.

Drawbacks: dt Notes is a little difficult to figure out at first, but once you get used to it, it isn’t hard to use.

MoRun.net Sticker Lite

MoRun.net Sticker Lite:

Where to download it:

FreeDownloadsCenter

How much does it cost: Free

Features: You can change the transparency of the post-it note to make it fade into the background like the pink note above. When you scroll over the note, it solidifies and you are then able to read it. This program also puts the date and time of the post creation on the top of every post.

Drawbacks: This program is amazing and really has no significant drawbacks.

When searching for a post-it note application for your desktop, here are a couple of things to keep in mind.

1. Make sure the price matches your budget. Also, if you are going to pay for something that is also available for free, then make sure it has something that makes it different and sets it apart.

2. Only download applications from trusted sources to ensure that you don’t accidentally download any viruses.

3. Explore the features of each program and find the one that works best for your needs.

And the winner is … MoRun.net Sticker Lite! This program won the contest because it is free and offers all of the features of the other programs plus some additional ones as well such as post-it note transparency.

I’ve tried the 3M ones before and they always took too long to load – i’ll have to give the other ones a try. Thanks!

I’ve been using MoRun for a few months — and to tell the truth, after using the free version for a few days I upgraded to the $ version — it allows for various alarms, and also you can associate notes with different screens (for example: I go to a webpage I use regularly that won’t remember my user name & password: so I’ve associated that screen with a note with that information on it — when I load it the page, the note pops up). And the notes can be made secure too!

FYI, McAfee SiteAdvisor says FreeDownloadsCenter (the link for MoRun.net Sticker Lite) is an unsafe site to download from. The report is here:

I have bought 6 Licenses of MO Run. The program is good. But there is no tech support. Absolute zero. My program will run for few weeks and then pops error *.dat not accessible. I used Note program to send quick notes to computer users on local network but it stops working after few weeks. The users have no administrative rights on their local computers which may be a problem i am experiencing, but no tech support to resolve the issue. If any one out there knows how to fix, please send me email.

I myself love 3M Post it Notes. They have excellent tech support. I’ve been using it since 2006. I recently got a Windows 7 Machine and couldn’t get my program to work. They sent me the latest version at no charge and walked me through how to get it set up under Windows 7.

Not paid for a 20 dollar progran I bought 4 months shy of 4 years ago.

The best thing I like about 3M Post It notes is I can attach my notes to a Memoboard. This lets me organize them and keep them off my desktop when I don’t need them. They also just look better to me. So if its a few seconds slow to open then the other programs I think its worth it. A couple seconds won’t kill me.

I think Stickies is a wonderful software. The opacity feature is absolutely great and it allows me to keep the sticky on my desktop at all times. The mailing feature is good and useful.
