Create an Index Image of All Your Photos

If you have thousands of pictures stored in your computer, a thumbnail or index image of all of them would be a better file management practice. An index image of all your pictures will also give you an easy time when finding a certain photo.
The Cas program is a photo index maker that is so easy to use. You’ll just have to specify the directory of the pictures you want to have thumbnails and within just seconds, an index image will be produced. With Cas, you can customize the output image’s pixel size, background color, text color, text size, JPG quality, and destination.
The only restriction Cas has is that it only accepts jpg, gif, and bmp file formats. But this is just a minor concern since the program can index an unlimited number of pictures.
To download Cas, go to
http://www.zhornsoftware.co.uk/cas/index.html and click its download link.
For this illustration, we will tick the Open with tickbox and open the zip file using WinRAR. Press the OK button to proceed.
After the download is finish,
WinRAR will immediately open the recently downloaded zip file. Unzip or de-compress the said file to your preferred computer directory.
After unzipping, double-click cas.exe (as shown below). This is one of the greatest things about this program — it does not need to be installed.
When Cas is launched, you will be asked to specify the location of the pictures you want to index or have thumbnails. Just remember that this tool only accepts jpg, gif, and bmp formats. Press OK after you’re done selecting the image directory.
You are given the full control of the output image’s overall quality. A word of caution though: the bigger the image size and JPG quality, the higher its file size will be. In here, you can also specify the output destination. You can also leave it as is through its default location.
After you’re done with this step, click OK.
All pictures will then be processed. For 606 big-sized photos, it took approximately two minutes for the processing to complete.
After the indexing is finished, the output image, which contains the thumbnails of all your pictures for that directory, is then created.
For this example, our created index image has a file size of more than 16mb because it had a 4000 x 4000 dimension. It’s bigger than a regular-sized poster. You can lower the file size by decreasing the image’s dimension and JPG quality.
These are some of the thumbnail photos of all 606 pictures Cas has processed, complete with filenames. You can email this to someone so that instead of sending all 606 photos, your receiver can just pick the ones he likes.
