Convert your iPhone or iTouch into an external hard drive

If you have an iPhone or an iTouch, you probably already know how to use iTunes to store all of your music, videos, and pictures on it, right? But using iTunes, you can’t easily transfer other files and folders between your computer and your iTouch or iPhone.

Firstly, you have to always make sure iTunes is installed on the computer you want to use to transfer files to your device and secondly you can’t copy and paste files from your iPhone or iTouch once you store them using iTunes.

DiskAid is a free program that basically converts your iPhone or iTouch into an external hard drive of sorts. You can use it to easily transfer files among your iPhone, iTouch and your computer.

store files on ipod

Once you run the program, plugin your iPod or iTouch and the software will automatically detect the device for you. It currently supports the iPhone 1, the iPhone 3G, and all generations of the iPod Touch. It supports firmware versions 1.1.1 and 2.2.

You can either drag and drop files into the main program window or you can use any of the button across to top to copy files, copy folders, create folders, or delete data from the device.

It also includes explorer type functionality, so you can sort by file name, size, type, rename files and folders, and more. Note that there is no need to jailbreak your device in order for the program to work, which is great because I hate hacking around with my Apple devices.

Overall, this is a great program for copying your files from PC to PC or for just storing data other than music, videos and pictures. Strangely older iPod models had a “disk mode” that allowed you to do this, but it seems to have gone away on the newer versions. Using DiskAid, you can get that disk mode back for your iPhone and iTouch. Enjoy! Source: DownloadSquad

Love your articles – but please, don’t refer to the iPod Touch as the “iTouch”.

Whoa whoa guys! Sorry about that! I didn’t realize everyone was so touchy about that! I guess it’s because I’m not a big Mac person. Anyway, I will correct it! iPod Touch it is!

The those 2 guys are super iGay, and they like to iTouch themselves! Yep, KG and Ernesto, Lovers

If I were gay, you telling me that wouldn’t affect me. The fact that you did implies that you really think I’m not gay at all. So you didn’t insult me at all, just reinforce my masculinity.

And, just so you know, I’m not an apple fanboy. I would rather buy a nokia phone, or any good phone with Android (not the G1, because it’s kind of ugly, but I’ll take it as a gift).
I just hate it when people say iTouch, since that device doesn’t exist (yet).

Please don’t say “nokia”. It’s Nokia with a capitol-N. Oh my, almost had a breakdown there. I am fine. Count to 10. ……… Whew.

I see what you did there… But there’s a big difference between a typo and making up a name. By the way, did you mean capital N? (you wrote capitol) ;)

How to transfer songs, videos, photos, playlists, podcasts and more from your iTouch/iPhone/iPod to ANY folder on your computer and iTunes library?

I’ve searched a lot on this when my computer crashed and lost all my iTunes files. Luckily, my friend told me that I could use this iPhone/iTouch/iPod to Computer Transfer to retrieve all files from my iPod back to my computer and iTunes:

Thanks God. It works great. You can free download it to try yourself.
