Chat with all of your IM buddies in Firefox using Meebo

Posted on October 19, 2007 at 2:24 pm

Meebo, if you haven’t heard, is a really cool service that aggregates all of your IM chat programs into one central location that you can use to access from anywhere and chat with your friends from anywhere. Now with apps moving to the web, i.e. Office online, it’s pretty useless to install 5 different IM chat programs like Yahoo Messenger, MSN, AIM, ICQ, etc onto your computer.

It’s much easier to simply log onto a web site like Meebo and chat with all of your friends from any IM service without having to download or install a single piece of software! Great!

However, if you’re lazy like me, you prefer to have something that’s right there, accessible with one click. Luckily for us, Meebo has introduced a cool new Firefox extension that allows you to chat with your friends from directly within Firefox while you browse the web!

The new Firefox extension has some pretty nice features as listed below:

  • Ability to setup buddy alerts, which is a first for an online IM client
  • Buddy list sidebar where you can see all your friends and their statues quickly. You can also hide it into a tab if you prefer it out of the way.
  • Automatic sign-on when you start up the browser

Meebo is very easy to setup and works great! I wish I had seen this before! You can also grab a Meebo widget and put it on your web site, such as MySpace profile or auction site or a blog so that people can easily chat with you.

Meebo works with AIM, Yahoo, MSN, Google Talk, ICQ and Jabber, so you’re pretty much covered unless you’re crazy! Enjoy!
